CJGA Linkster Tour

CJGA LINKSTER TOUR – BOYS & GIRLS AGES 4 -14

ABOUT THE LINKSTER TOUR

The CJGA Linkster Tour is an introductory developmental golf tour for Junior Boy’s & Girl’s of all skill levels who are 4-14 years of age.

The CJGA Linkster Tour consists primarily of a series of single-day (18 or 9 hole) competitions held on weekends throughout the Canadian golf season.  CJGA Linkster Tour events are conducted in regions all across Canada and participants earn points on the GOLFTEC National Order of Merit based on their finish in each event.

In addition to the standard single day competition, the CJGA Linkster Tour also features several multi-day (36) hole competitions intended to help prepare Linkster age players for the Junior Tour.

The goal of the CJGA Linkster Tour is to provide a balance of both competitiveness for the more advanced player, while remaining a fun & inclusive environment for those players who are just starting out.  In order to ensure that the environment of the CJGA Linkster Tour remains fun & inclusive, caddies are allowed in all divisions on this tour.  The purpose of allowing caddies is to both keep the juniors feeling more relaxed knowing that they have a parent there to guide them through some of the tougher decisions they may encounter on the course, as well as providing the parents of our players with exposure to the rules of the game.

The CJGA Linkster Tour is a great way for juniors & parents to spend an afternoon on the course and make new friends who share a passion for the game of golf.

CJGA Linkster Tour events will also award points on the GOLFTEC National Order of Merit based on our Tier ranking system

The following outlines general guidelines for hole-by-hole yardage on the CJGA Linkster Tour.

CJGA Staff will follow these guidelines when setting up courses for our events.

(Based on a Par 72 course)

Yardages Red White Blue Black
Min Max Min Max Min Max Min Max
Par 3 30 60 70 100 100 140 110 140
Par 4 140 170 200 230 260 290 290 320
Par 5 230 260 290 330 370 400 430 460

Please Note that in some cases the layout or contour of a hole may make following these yardage guidelines impractical and in such cases the CJGA reserves the right to extend or shorten the length of a hold beyond the yardages outlined above.

A Note To Linkster Parents

Winning is always a fun experience, and a great way to get your child motivated. Keep in mind that constantly winning isn’t necessarily the best way for your player to develop their skills and grow as a player.

The CJGA’s Linkster Tour courses & yardages are set-up in an effort to make them fair to all those who may participate in events regardless of skill level. This sometimes means that more advanced players may not have as much of a challenge when competing in their age group.  For this reason we do recommend that juniors who have more experience and skill, or who might hit the ball a bit farther for their age should consider playing a division up in some events on the Linkster Tour.

Challenging themselves by playing up a division will also help more advanced players who may be younger in age prepare better for international competitions as many of these championships operate under longer yardage layouts.

“Junior golfers in Canada will continue to improve by participating in the CJGA’s programs. The experience juniors will gain through participation in professionally run multi-day tournaments will go a long way to developing both the mental and physical aspects of becoming a successful golfer.”
