Angelo Giantsopoulos, a senior on the Drexel Dragons golf team, and a CJGA alumnus, picked up medalist honors at the Don Benbow Invitational played at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course. It was the first victory of the senior’s career at Drexel.

Angelo continued his solid start to the 2021 Spring golf season, with the victory at the Don Benbow Invitational following a top-20 finish last week at the Sea Palms Invitational at St. Simons Island, GA

Giantsopoulos fired a one-under-par 70 during the opening round of the Don Benbow Invitational and was the only player to shoot a sub-Par round on the par 71, 6,750-yard course.

Angelo closed out the Jacksonville tournament with an even-Par round of 71 in windy conditions, cementing his victory with 3 birdies in his last 4 holes of the final round, including chip-in birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.

The final score of 1-under-Par was the only sub-par score for the entire tournament and was good for a 2 shot edge on the next best score.  The golf tournament was attended by 10 NCAA D1 golf teams.

To compliment Giantsopoulos’ victory, his Drexel Dragons won the team event finishing 24 shots ahead of the second place Bulldogs form Butler University.
