Abbotsford, BC (May 8, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association hosted a DeLaet Cup Team West Qualifier at the beautiful Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford, BC this past weekend. The tournament saw juniors from across British Columbia compete to potentially earn a spot on Team West for the DeLaet Cup.

Junior Boys U19

Langley, BC own Andy Jang captured the Junior Boys division at Ledgeview by six strokes over the weekend. Jang had stellar rounds of 68-72-140 to finish the tournament at even par. Jang’s first round 68 was the lowest round of the tournament in the division.

When asked about the strength of his game this weekend, Jang said “My putting, I made a 50 foot putt on 16 for birdie, and made some clutch par putts”. Jang felt really good about his win on the weekend as he was able to shoot his best scores in his career at Ledgeview Golf Club.

Lucas Wu of Vancouver, BC finished in solo second place after posting rounds of 70-76-146 to finish six back of Jang. Wu along with Jang were the only players in the Junior Boys division to shoot even par or better.

Junior Girls U19

Amy Ehlert from Maple Ridge, BC came out victorious in the Junior Girls division after grinding out a one stroke victory. Ehlert had weekend rounds of 75-81-156 which helped her claim the division title. Ehlert felt good in the club house after winning but thought that she left some shots out on the course and could of scored better.

“I quite enjoyed the course, it was really nice. There were some difficult holes and the greens were tricky but I overall liked it”, said Ehlert in a post round interview when asked about Ledgeview Golf Club. Ehlert believed that it was her approach shot success over the two rounds that ultimately led to her victory, which included an amazing long approach shot on 18 which landed on the green to help her make par.

Sienna Kraus also from Maple Ridge, BC made a charge up the leaderboard on Sunday  to apply pressure on Ehlert’s lead. Kraus just fell one shot short after shooting rounds of 83-74-157. Her final round 74 was the lowest round shot in the division over the weekend.

Bantam Boys U15

Sher Sidhu of Surrey, BC was able to capture his first ever CJGA tournament title this past weekend at Ledgeview Golf Club, a course in which he is very familiar with from being a member at Ledgeview. Sidhu posted rounds of 81-77-158 which was good enough for a six shot lead. Sidhu entered the final round two shots behind the first round leader and his final round 77 saw him climb into first place on the leaderboard.

“Definitely my driving because I didn’t miss many fairways. I was really consistent which put me in a good position for my second shots”, was Sidhu’s reply when asked about the strengths of his game. A birdie on hole 6 was a highlight of Sidhu’s round as it was the first time he has every birdied the sixth at Ledgeview.

Junwoo Nam from Abbotsford, BC placed second in the Bantam Boys division after shooting weekend scores of 79-85-164.

Bantam Girls U15

Angel Lin pride of Surrey, BC clinched the Bantam Girls division at Ledgeview this past weekend. Lin had rounds of 73-77-150 to win the division by six shots. Lin was pleased with her win but knows that there were a few things that she could of improved on out on the course.

Lin introduced a new aspect of her game this weekend, “I changed my putting stroke and tempo, so the whole plan was to get the speed right on the first putt then hitting it straight on second putts”. The new putting stroke brought success for Lin who won her second event in as many months on the CJGA.

Jennifer Gu from West Vancouver, BC had consistent weekend rounds of 78-78-156 to finish in solo second place. Gu and Lin enjoyed being paired for the final round as they both find playing with each other enjoyable and relaxing.
