Calgary, AB (August 24, 2016) – Brigitte Thibault, a member of the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA), recently earned an exemption into her first ever LPGA Tour event. Tomorrow, the 17 year old from Rosemère, Que., will compete amongst 156 of the best professionals and amateurs, at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. The championship will take place from August 25 – 28th, at the Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club in Calgary, Alberta.

After a tense qualifying round at the Hamptons Golf Club on Monday, Thibault finished in second place, earning a spot in the championship round with five-over, 77. Twenty-one players vied to secure one of four spots to qualify for the CP Women’s Open. Taking the other three spots were, Briana Mao, who came in first place, followed by Christine Song and Angel Yin claiming the third and fourth exemptions respectively.

Thibault finds herself in good company at the CP Women’s Open. She is joined by several CJGA alumni including, Brooke Henderson, Alena Sharp and Maude-Aimee Leblanc. Overall, the field includes 17 of Canada’s top female golfers.

This year, the athletes from Canada will be looking to take the CP Women’s Open title away from New Zealand’s, Lydia Ko. Ko, the world’s No. 1 female golfer, is a three-time winner of this event, winning as an amateur in 2012 and 2013, and as a professional last year. However, she will face off against a strong field, including Olympian and three time LPGA winner Brooke Henderson, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the world.

Playing against 97 of the top 100 players in the world, including over 30 Olympians, means Thibault will have to dig deep in order to pull out a victory. However, after a solid qualifying performance and earning her right to play alongside the very best in the field, there is no stopping Thibault’s rise to the top of amateur and ultimately, professional golf.
