Ponoka, Alta. (May 20, 2016) – Another weekend of golf is upon us. The Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Junior Tour will compete in a two-day tournament at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. CJGA golfers will play the old course, one that promises to keep golfers on their toes. Division winners will have the opportunity to be considered for a spot on CJGA Team Canada in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships.
The IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships boasts an impressive history with a strong line-up of previous champions including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els as well as many other PGA and LPGA stars. Since 1968, over seventy countries have been represented and the event annually draws a field of over 1200 junior golfers.
The Old Course is one of two 18-hole courses at Wolf Creek Golf Course. Both courses provide a taste of traditional Scottish golf tucked amongst the rolling hills of central Alberta. The course was kept as simple as possible, creating a layout that seamlessly blended with the natural landscape while still creating a challenging game. The immaculate fairways are lined with long native grasses and the greens are large and undulating. Like any good links golf course, there are deep pot bunkers strategically placed throughout.
The Wolf’s three nines weave in and about sandy dunes and tree-lined ravines. There are few level lies and, like any links course, the iron play must be precise. In addition, there is trouble for being wild off the tee. It can be a punishing test for the high-handicapper. Wolf Creek allows creativity around the greens – actually it demands it. The greens are downright entertaining at the Wolf. Huge swales, humps, and hollows are present on the putting surfaces.
