St. Catharines, ON (August 10, 2015)- Players were greeted Monday morning with calm conditions and a golf course prime for scoring in round one of the CJGA Mizuno National Junior Championship at Rockway Vineyards Golf Club in St. Catharines, ON. Jaron Brown of Thornhill, ON relied on a hot putter on his way to a first round 4-under par 68 and leads the Boys 15-19 division. Brown finished his round with three birdies in his final five holes, giving him momentum heading into Tuesday. Second place is currently held by Kelvin Young Woong Lim of Thornhill, ON, who posted an opening round of 3-under par 69.
The Girls 15-19 division completed round one with two clear front-runners. Grace St-Germain of Orleans, ON will enter round two trailing by one shot after posting an opening round of 2-under par 70. In round two she will be looking to catch Danielle Sawyer, whose impressive 6 first round birdies lead her to a 3-under par 69. Sawyer relied on strong driving of the ball to maintain momentum throughout the round. The top two girls have a four shot lead on the field headed into round 2.
Jack Sue of Richmond Hill, ON opened up a four shot lead in the Boys 14 & Under division after posting a 1-under par 71. Sue started his tournament with an opening nine of one under par 35 after making a bounce back birdie on the ninth hole to maintain momentum heading into the back nine. Sean Buckles of Vancouver, BC bounced back from an opening hole triple bogey to post a 3-over par round of 75 to stand in second place entering Tuesday.
Mackenzie Morrison of Etobicoke, ON and Victoria Zheng of Markham, ON share the first round lead in the Girls 14 & Under division with rounds of 85.
