From July 2nd to 5th, the Canadian Junior Golf Association returned to the incredible King’s Forest Golf Club in Hamilton, Ontario for our 2024 PING CANADIAN JUNIOR MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP. With the help of our incredible partners, especially Ping and Tourism Hamilton, we were able to see through another successful installment in this remarkable and historic tournament series.

From a score that broke 70 to a hole-in-one, here are the highlights:

Stroke Play

King’s Forest is a great fit for this landmark event because of how well it balances challenge and reward. This scenic course can be daunting at first, but our competitors were up for the challenge. Playing the 18-hole course twice over two days of stroke play gave them the opportunity to improve their score from day to day. Take one of our Junior Players, Ovide Sun, who shaved 13 strokes off his game on the second day, for an impressive combined score of 167.

For consistent and top-quality play look no further than our leader in Junior Boys stroke play, Dyson Lansing. On both days of stroke play, Lansing shot 74, for an incredible combined score of 148.

We must also congratulate Taehwee Kim, from our Bantam Boys division, for achieving the best individual score of the entire tournament, a 69 on the first day of play. That strong of a score, 3 under par at King’s Forest, is no small feat.

Our Junior and Bantam Girls also rose to the challenge with some truly impressive feats. The Bantam Division leader Keisha Han was consistently on the mark, scoring a 75 on both rounds for a combined score of 150 strokes. Meanwhile, in our Junior Division, Hannah Lee achieved a skillful combined score of 159.

Match Play

Our two days of match play saw fierce competition as well as true sportsmanship and comradery. Friendships were made and skills were tested. In a surprising turn of events, the leaders in our Junior and Bantam Boys stroke play, Dyson Lansing and Jett Metaxas, were both eliminated in the first round after two well-fought matchups. These developments cemented that it was truly anyone’s game. In the end our tournament winners were Taehwee Kim, Ashton Rinaldi, Hannah Lee, and Keisha Han. Each of these athletes are sure to have bright futures in golf. Congratulations are also in order for everyone else who dared to take on this incredible course and play in the tournament.

Thanks again, and we hope to see you in 2025!
