CJGA British Columbia Season Opener at University Recap

Vancouver, BC (March 16th, 2023) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) began its 30th Anniversary Season this past weekend with the playing of the CJGA British Columbia Season Opener at beautiful University Golf Club in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Through two-days of competition players battled cold weather and tricky course conditions, but that did not stop them from posting low scores throughout both rounds of play.

Divisional Winners

Amateur Men Division (U24)

Ontario-native Dylan MacDonald tallied a total of three eagles throughout both rounds on his way to win the Amateur Men Division⁣.

  • R2: 71
  • TOT: 139 (-5)

Junior Girls Division (U19)

In the Junior Girls Division, Ha Yang Chang followed up her solid even-par opening round and won her fifth career CJGA Junior Tour event.

Scores:

  • R1: 72
  • R2: 73
  • TOT: 145 (+1)

Junior Boys Division (U19)

Manu Gandhi fired an incredible two-day total score of 134 to go 10-under on the tournament and win the Junior Boys Division⁣.

Scores:

  • R1: 66
  • R2: 68
  • TOT: 134 (-10)

Juvenile Boys Division (U17)

Eric Joo fired a three-under par 69 in the final round to come back from a 10-stroke deficit and win the Juvenile Boys Division.

Scores:

  • R1: 74
  • R2: 69
  • TOT: 143 (-1)

 Bantam Girls Division (U15)

In her CJGA Junior Tour debut, Charlotte Tam secured the Bantam Girls Division victory by seven stokes.

  • R1: 77*
  • R2: 82
  • TOT: 159 (+23)

 Bantam Boys Division (U15)

After winning one CJGA Linkster Tour event in 2022, Tiger Zhao started 2023 with his first ever CJGA Junior Tour win in the Bantam Boys Division by just one stoke.

  • R1: 70*
  • R2: 74
  • TOT: 144 (+4) 

Top Story

 It only took four holes in the opening round of our 2023 season to capture the first hole-in-one of the year. In the Bantam Boys Division, Matthew Cui scored an ace on the Par 3 fourth hole at University Golf Club from 135 yards out. Cui would go on to finish in solo third place in his division.

The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is a “registered Canadian amateur athletic association” (RCAAA) non-for-profit registered federally with Revenue Canada.
