The CJGA’s first championship event commenced this week with the playing of the Humber College PGM CJGA Western Canadian Championship Presented by Taylormade at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond, British Columbia. A number of players utilized the pristine conditions of Mayfair Lakes to go low and finish with an under-par score for the tournament.
Benjamin Lovrod claimed the first amateur men division title of the year with a 21 over par score throughout his three rounds of play.
Michelle Liu not only won the junior girls division but also claimed lowest total score of the tournament with a four under par showing. The tightly packed junior girls division had a number of under par showings, with Vanessa Zhang finishing one under, and Victoria Liu coming up just short of tying the lead with a three under par final score.
Junior boys divisional winner Willy Bishop stringed together a consistent 72-71-71 three rounds and finished at only one over par to come out on top in his division. Second place finisher and winner last week at the CJGA BC Season Opener Kevin Li shot an impressive 68 final round score, but despite it being the lowest round of the tournament it was not enough to catch Bishop.
Bantam girls divisional winner Ha Young Chang blew away her competition by 14 strokes to capture the victory.
After winning the CJGA BC Season Opener, Michael Li continued his hot play this week to finish atop the bantam boys division for the second week in a row. After a two under par second round, Alex Zhang fell just short of the title by two strokes.
Tournament Director, Tyler Torrieri added, “the convergence of great weather for the first two days of competition and perfect course conditions made this another great tournament. It was amazing to see players in all divisions battle physically and mentally to put together three solid rounds of play.”
