~Rounds of 16 & 12 get Underway on Thursday Morning at Kings Forest~

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – JULY 3, 2019 – The second day of the PING Canadian Junior Match-Play Championship was completed today at King’s Forest Golf Club. After the first two days the stroke-play portion of the tournament has now ended, and the seeding for the match-play is now set in stone. It was an exciting day in every division with three out of four divisions needing a playoff to determine the final seedings.

Isaiah Ellis was able to hold on to his top spot that he held after day one with a total score of 149 through 36, and as a result will go into the match-play as the fist seed in the Bantam Boys division. He will face off against the twelfth seed Jared Lipski, who was able to defeat Kurt Rivers in a playoff match, securing his spot in day three. Rounding out the top 3 in the division are Kevin Lee and Mitchell Grey who shot 76 and 79 respectively and will be encouraged by a strong first two days. The round of 16 will be played early tomorrow morning to determine who will make it through to the quarter finals.

Over in the Bantam Girls division, there was some great competition to earn a spot in the final twelve. Mia Wong matched her 74 from round one, to put her at 148 through 36, earning herself top spot. Kelly Zhao, Lauren Gervais and Alexa Ouellet were also able to finish in the top four, in that order, to secure a bye into the quarter finals of the division. The remaining eight girls will play “win and you’re in” matches to earn a chance to take down the top four.

The Junior Boys division, which consisted of a remarkable 43 players, was hotly contested all weekend. In the end Noah Campbell was able to take top spot, beating out Ryan Hogan by one stroke, making him the one to watch heading into day three. Campbell will face off against Jake McBride, who was able to defeat both Bradyn Wark and James Bader in a three-person playoff. McBride was asked about his strategy going into a tough matchup against the top seed, saying he plans to “play conservative and play based off my competitor.” It looks to be an exciting day ahead in the Junior Boys division with tight matchups across the board.

Finally, in the Junior Girls division Raesa Sheikh was able to finish at eight over through 36 holes, to allow her to claim first seed heading into day three. The quarter finals will take pace beginning tomorrow afternoon with Raesa Sheikh, Nicole Gal, Megan Miron, and the rest of the top eight junior girls.

The stroke play portion of the tournament was a massive success, and now the match-play will ultimately decide who the champion of each division is. Tomorrow, the remaining players will each get there chance to earn a spot in the semi finals which will begin on Friday.
