Pitt Meadows, B.C. – Three golfers claimed their first Canadian Junior Golf Association title and another carded his career best to win his division this past weekend in the Fall Series played under sunny skies at Pitt Meadows Golf Club in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

Delta golfer John Morrow claimed his second CJGA title shooting 72-66 and a six-under-par 138 total. Morrow’s next competitor, Jackson Rothwell from Victoria, rebounded in the second round shooting 78-72-150 over two days.

“It was a good round,” explained Morrow, winning his second tournament on the CJGA Fall Series. “It was really mostly on the greens. I had 26 putts today and anything inside 10 feet I was going to make.

“The iron shots were setting me up to make the putts,” said Morrow, whose card included seven birdies and only one bogey. “I was hitting my irons really well too. Hitting close and giving myself a lot of chances for birdies.”

Vancouver golfer Vanessa Zhang moved up from the CJGA Linkster division to win her first Bantam division title on the CJGA Junior Tour. Zhang won the Bantam division shooting 79-75-154 over the par-74 (ladies’ par) Pitt Meadows layout. Surreu golfer Jia An was runner-up in the Bantam division carding 81-82-163.

“There is a whole new group of girls I am playing with,” said Zhang. “My round felt a lot better today than yesterday when I did really terrible. I couldn’t make anything and missed like seven birdie putts. Today my putting was better and I made three birdies.”

Angela Zhang, 15, from Langley won the CJGA Junior division shooting 75-78-153. Two strokes back in second-place was Richmond golfer Tina Jiang shooting 76-79-155.

“Next year I am going to push myself to do better,” said Zhang who won her first CJGA title after two years playing these tournaments. “I still have a lot of work to do on my game. I didn’t start golf as early as most people my age. I am going to try and catch up to those people. I need to try and be more consistent and to be better overall.”

Coquitlam golfer Luke Quanson came from six back starting the final round and overcame first-round leader Freddy Sun to win the Bantam title. Quanson, 13, shot 76-73-149 to win by three strokes. Vancouver’s Sun opened with a two-under par 70 then struggled in the second round shooting 82 and a 152 total.

“It feels really good to win,” said Quanson. “It was good. Putting was solid. Driving was solid. Everything was good.”

The next stop on the CJGA of B.C. Fall Series is this weekend (October 21-22) at one of the finest nine hole courses in western Canada – Mission GC. The CJGA Linkster’s Fall Series will be played on Saturday (Oct. 21) at Mission GC.
