Alberton, ON (July 14th, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association hosted the CJGA Junior at Heron Point Golf Links earlier this week in Alberton, ON. Players avoided rain during the tournament despite the cloudy skies. The golf course was in great shape and the juniors really enjoyed the track at Heron Point despite majority of the field finding the course tough to play. The winners in each division were playing some great golf as they separated themselves from the rest of the field to clinch their victories.

Junior Boys U19

Braydon Evans of Oakville, ON was victorious in the Junior Boys division at Heron Point earlier this week. Evans posted scores of 78-71-149 to comfortably win the division. Evans entered the final round with a two stroke lead and was able to separate himself from the rest of the field with a final round 71 which was the lowest tournament score posted in the event.

Evans has been practicing a lot on his golf game recently and was excited after winning at Heron Point, “I feel pretty good, this is my first CJGA win, so it was nice. Ive been working really hard on my game so it was nice to see it connect on the course.” said Evans in a post round interview.

Finishing in second place at Heron Point was Griffin Coté also from Oakville, ON. Coté had scores of 86-77-163 to be only the second player in the field to break 80, next to Evans.

Bantam Boys U15

Peter Blazevic from Burlington, ON was able to continue his good spring season play into the summer as he clinch yet another victory on the CJGA. Blazevic had stellar rounds of 74-73-147 to win the Bantam Boys division by seven strokes. Peter’s final round 73 helped him climb the leaderboard as he entered the second round one shot behind the leader.

Heron Point was a challenge for the field as golf course management was an important key to success. “You got to put yourself in the fairway, because if you put it in the fescue it is hard to get out of and you cant get spin, and the greens were running pretty firmly so you have to hold the greens, so my motto was to hit fairways then put a wedge into the green.” said Blazevic after clinching his fourth victory on the year.

In second place was Connor Munro of Etobicoke, ON who had rounds of 78-76-154.

Junior Girls U19

Catherine Zhang from Toronto, ON was able to capture the Junior Girls division at Heron Point after playing consistent golf throughout the tournament. Zhang had two solid rounds of 82-82-164 to comfortably win the Junior Girls division. Her pair of 82’s were also the tournament low rounds within the division.

Emily Maradin from Burlington, ON finished in second place at Heron Point after posting scores of 101-93-194.

Bantam Girls U15

Ella Weber of Burlington, ON was able to hoist the Bantam Girls trophy at Heron Point Golf Links earlier this week. Weber had rounds of 93-89-182 in which her 89 during the final round was the lowest score posted in the tournament.

After seeing the golf course on the first day, Weber had a game plan heading into the final round to improve on her opening round 93, “Not going for every pin and taking the safer route rather than going over bunkers and hazards.” commented Weber in her post round interview. Weber has won CJGA Linkster events in previous years but this was Ella’s first win on the Junior tour.
