Toronto, ON (July 9th, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association partnered with the International Junior Golf Tour is excited to host the 15th North America Cup at the prestigious Weston Golf & Country Club in Toronto, Ontario starting on Monday, July 10th. The North America Cup is a Ryder Cup format event that will see Team Canada take on Team USA in a three day international event to determine the champion of North America.

Beginning in 2003, the North America Cup was created between the CJGA and the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT). The two developed a partnership to enhance the international opportunities for junior golfers in both Canada and the United States. This event is unique to both countries as it is the first international junior event to take on a Ryder Cup format. The inaugural event took place at Weston Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Ont. Since then, the tournament has grown into a coveted event for junior golfers.

The first round of the event will be four ball matches, followed by day two of foursomes then the traditional final day single matches to determine the champion. CJGA Team Canada will consist of eight junior boys, two bantam boys and two junior girls. Juniors have been selected by the CJGA committee based on the requirements and play in designated qualifier tournaments.

Luca Ferrara of Toronto, ON will be representing CJGA Team Canada this week and is looking forward to the event, “I’m really excited, this is my first team event and I’m representing Canada which is pretty cool, it will be fun and I’m hoping to get off to a good start on Monday.” Ferrara and the rest of Team Canada enjoyed two days of training camp at Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, ON before heading to Weston Golf Club for their final practice round on Sunday afternoon. Luca commented on how the two day training camp and practice rounds went with Team Canada, “We have been working on all aspects of our games, with the short game area here at Glen Abbey and also the trackman, the team was prioritizing the things they needed to work on the most, we are ready to go.”

Cody Kotva will serve as CJGA Team Canada Captain for the 15th annual North America Cup. Kotva recently graduated from the University of Charleston with a Sports Business Degree while serving as the golf team captain in his senior year. Kotva also served as Team West Captain during the DeLaet Cup in Saskatoon, SK earlier in June. Kotva is feeling confident about Team Canada’s chances of regaining the cup after a 13-7 defeat last year in South Carolina, “The team is really excited for the week, they are building some team chemistry. The team is ready to compete, they had a great training camp at Glen Abbey to fine tune their games.”
