Calgary, AB (June 19th, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association was excited to host the annual Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior Championship this past weekend at Inglewood Golf and Curling Club in Calgary, AB. The competition in each field was amazing which matched the great weather over the weekend.
Junior Boys U19
Korbin Allan of Strathmore, AB was able to clinch the Junior Boys division at the Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior Championship at Inglewood. Allan had weekend rounds of 73-74-147 to win by one shot. Allan entered the final round one shot off of the lead and with the low round on Sunday was able to move up the leaderboard to grab the victory.
Finishing just one shot behind Allan was Cam Duffin of Red Deer, AB. Duffin shot weekend rounds of 72-76-148 in which is first round 72 was low score of the tournament.
Junior Girls U19
Calgary, AB own Sharmaine Rapisura was crowned Junior Girls champion at Inglewood for the Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior Championship. Rapisura posted excellent weekend rounds of 80-78-158 to win by two shots. Rapisura entered the final round one stroke off the lead and was able to leap frog spots on the leaderboard by firing the low round of the tournament in the final with her final round 78.
Fresh off competing at the DeLaet Cup this past week in Saskatoon, SK with Team West, Stephanie Chelack from Calgary, AB just narrowly missed out of forcing a playoff with Rapisura after she posted rounds of 79-81-160.
Bantam Boys U15
Freddy Sun of Richmond, BC was able to win the Bantam Boys division at the Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior Championship over the past weekend. Sun was representing Team West at the DeLaet Cup last week in which he brought his good form back from Saskatoon to clinch another CJGA victory. Sun had amazing rounds of 69-76-145 and was the only player to shoot under par in the tournament with his first round 69.
Naoki Iwasaki from Edmonton, AB placed second this past weekend at Inglewood Golf and Curling Club. Iwasaki posted weekend scores of 78-72-150 to finish five shots off of Sun’s pace.
Bantam Girls U15
Georgia Barr from Calgary, AB raised the trophy in the Bantam Girls division over this past weekend at the Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior Championship. Barr had rounds of 94-92-186 to comfortably win the division. Barr’s final round 92 was the lowest round posted in the division over the course of the tournament.
Brooke Frerichs also of Calgary, AB finished in second place this past weekend. Frerichs posted rounds of 108-111-219.
