Caledon, ON (June 6, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association continued its Nike Golf Junior Series events this past weekend at Caledon Woods Golf Club in Caledon, ON. Juniors from across Ontario came to Caledon to compete for their division titles. The tournament had a short weather delay during the final round, due to lightning strikes in the area. Juniors had to overcome some weather conditions to score well on a tough layout at Caledon Woods.

Junior Boys U19

Max Wang pride of Brampton, ON was able to out duel good friend Kyle Chung in a sudden death playoff to win the Junior Boys division at Caledon Woods. Wang had very solid rounds of 70-72-142 to ultimately win the trophy. Wang held the first round lead on Saturday night and played well on Sunday to hold off a charging Chung who posted a 68 on Sunday.

“Today was a really competitive day, I had a lot of fun. To go into a playoff against a good buddy of mine was obviously a lot of fun but also had a lot of pressure”, said Wang in the clubhouse after his playoff victory, “my biggest strength this week was my driving, I was able to hit a lot of good tee shots and put myself in good positions to make birdies”.

Kyle Chung of Brampton, ON had weekend rounds of 74-68-142, to force the playoff with Wang. Chung’s final round 68 was the low round of the tournament.

Junior Girls U19

Ashley Chow of North York, ON was able to clinch the Junior Girls division at the Nike Golf Junior Series event at Caledon Woods this past weekend. Chow posted scores of 89-82-171 to win the division by one stroke. Ashley entered the final round two shots behind of the lead but was able to climb the leaderboard with a solid 82 on Sunday.

When asked about how she dealt with going back out on the course after the weather delay, Chow replied saying, “When we went back out there I just tried to keep a smooth swing and focus on my target”. Her strategy paid off as she was able to play well in her remaining holes to secure the win.

Kacey Walker from Mississauga, ON finished in second place after having weekend rounds of 87-85-172.

Bantam Boys U15

Peter Blazevic of Burlington, ON was able to maintain his stellar form of play this weekend at the Nike Golf Junior Series at Caledon Woods. Blazevic was able to clinch his third title of the season by three strokes over the weekend. Peter posted scores of 74-77-151 in which is first round 74 was tied for lowest round of the tournament.

“I had a good shot on 17 that was pretty clutch, it was 94 yards and I shot it right over the pin probably to about 12 feet and then I made the clutch birdie putt which then gave me the win”, explained Blazevic in a post round interview.

Zander Gibson of Milton, ON finished in second place after having weekend rounds of 79-74-153. Gibson’s final round 74 tied for the low round of the tournament with Blazevic.

Bantam Girls U15

Annie Wanying Yu from Richmond Hill, ON was able to win the Bantam Girls division at Caledon Woods in a sudden death playoff. Yu had very consistent rounds of 84-84-168 to force a playoff with Annie Piggott.

Piggott, of Lindsay, ON posted weekend rounds of 83-85-168 to compete in the playoff against You.
