Lachute, QC (May 23, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association hosted a DeLaet Cup Qualifier this past weekend in Lachute, QC. The tournament served as a qualifier for a potential spot on Team East for the DeLaet Cup, being hosted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan later this summer. Juniors were able to dodge rain fall this weekend and play in sunny conditions on Saturday. During the final round the winds picked up which created cooler temperatures for players to golf in. Romi Dilawri in the Junior Boys division had the shot of the tournament when he aced the par 3 13th during the final round on Sunday.

Junior Boys U19

Max Dragon of Ottawa, ON was able to claim the Junior Boys division at Club de Golf Lachute on the weekend. Dragon had impressive under par rounds of 70-70-140 to win by a two shot margin.

“The golf course was interesting, with six par 5s there was lots of opportunity to score, so I tried taking advantage of those. The fairways were nice and I liked the layout of the course”, explained Dragon when asked about Club de Golf Lachute. Dragon’s driver was the best club in his bag over the weekend, hitting accurate and long tee shots gave him short iron shots into the greens. Dragon’s final round concluded with a great 10 foot putt for birdie on 18.

Vincent Poirier from Candiac, QC finished just two strokes off of Dragon’s pace. Poirier also posted two rounds in red figures 71-71-142 to be along with Dragon, the only players to finish the tournament under par.

Junior Girls U19

Dylann Armstrong of North Gower, ON was able to win the Junior Girls division this past weekend. Armstrong posted rounds of 80-85-165 to clinch the division trophy. Armstrong had strong iron play and approach shots over the weekend but would like to see her tee shots and putting improve for her next tournament.

“My game plan was to keep a level mind, and just play as best as I could, just hit the ball where I wanted to and just go from there”, replied Armstrong when asked what her game plan was entering the final round, “I prepared by working especially hard on my short game to improve it from day to day”.

Bantam Boys U15

Jordan Dumont of Blainville, QC finished on top of the Bantam Boys division at the DeLaet Cup Qualifier in Lachute over this past weekend. Dumont had consistent weekend rounds of 80-80-160 to narrowly win by one shot. Dumont’s driver was accurate off the tee over the weekend and he was happy with the hard work he has put into his game recently.

With the elevation changes on certain holes, Dumont had to keep his focus on deciding which club to hit off of tees and approach shots to greens. Along with the elevation changes the windy conditions on Sunday made Dumont have to club up to play according to the way the wind was blowing.

Finishing in a close second place, only one shot behind Dumont was Vasily Konachenkov from Montreal, QC. Konachenkov posted rounds of 77-84-161 to narrowly miss forcing a playoff with Dumont.

Bantam Girls U15

Laurence Lamer of Blainville, QC was able to comfortably win the Bantam Girls division title at the Team East DeLaet Cup Qualifier this past weekend in Lachute. Lamer had scores of 85-88-173. This was Lamer’s first event on the CJGA and she was really happy to win in her first tournament.

“My strengths were my drives but I need to work on my putting”, said Lamer when asked about her game in the clubhouse post round, “In the sand traps, I had great shots and not so great shots”.

Yosemite Qureshi from Quebec City, QC finished in second place after having rounds of 97-91-188.
