Palm Harbor, FL (December 29, 2016) – After another fog delay this morning juniors were greeted with beautiful weather conditions at Innisbrook Golf & Resort today for the second round of the CJGA World Junior Challenge. Juniors played the Island and North Courses while trying to separate themselves amongst the crowded leaderboards on moving day.
Junior Boys (U19)
Tough course conditions on the Island course caused above normal scores in the junior boys division. Ziga Strasek of Slovenia jumped into the leader position after posting a round of 78 (+6) and now leads Thomas Luger of Leawood, KS by two-strokes.
Juvenile Boys (U17)
The final round on the Copperhead course is sure to have excitement in the juvenile division as two players sit atop the leaderboard. Leaders Logan Broyles of Mendon, VT and Nathan Han of Somers, NY impressed the spectators on the Island course with a scores of 73 (+1). Nipping on the heels of the leaders is first round leader Tianyu Wu of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL after shooting 78 (+6).
Junior Girls (U19)
Sydney Scraba of Calgary, AB moved into top spot in the junior girls division after shooting a second round score of 80 (+9) on the par 71 North course. With her tournament total of 157 (+15) Scraba will take a two-stroke lead into the final round over first round leader Sarah-Eve Rheaume of Lac De Lage, QC and Louise Henningsson of Sweden. Henningsson jumped up the leaderboard today after firing a 6 over par 77.
Bantam Boys (U15)
Australia’s Tony Chen opened up an impressive four-stroke lead in the bantam boys division after firing a round of 70 (-1) today on the North course. Tied in second place with a tournament total of 142 (E) are Andrew Yong Jung of San Diego, CA, Antoine Bieglé of France and Tom McKibbin of the United Kingdom.
Bantam Girls (U15)
First round leader Ffion Tynan of Wales continued her strong play this week by posting a division low score of 79 (+8) on the North course. Tyan now leads by two-stroke over defending champion Mathilde Denicourt of St-Césaire, QC who shot a score of 81 (+10).
Peewee Boys (U13)
Argentina’s Gonzalo Oliva Pinto fired an impressive round of 72 (E) to vault him into a tie at the top of the leaderboard with Tiger Christensen of Germany who shot 80 (+8)
Peewee Girls (U13)
Canadian Nicole Gal once again shot a score of 87 (+16) for a tournament total of 174 and now leads Andrea Woods of Riverview, FL by two strokes.
The junior and juvenile boys will play the final round tomorrow on the Copperhead course while the junior girls, bantam boys, bantam girls, peewee boys and peewee girls will remain on the North course.
