Richmond Hill, ON (December 20, 2016) The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is pleased to announce the release of the 2017 national tournament schedule. Heading into the 25th year of operation, the CJGA will provide unmatched opportunities for junior golfers aged 5-18 right across Canada with over 100 events on the national schedule.
The CJGA Junior Tour (boys and girls aged 11-18) will host 53 events across Canada to participate in while the CJGA Linkster Tour (boys and girls aged 5-14) will have 44 events in five different provinces. Registration for tournament will open on Monday January 2 at 12 noon EST.
Aligned with the Long Term Player Development Pathway, the CJGA offers unmatched opportunities across Canada to showcase their skills and talents to many people, including prominent golf coaches in both Canada and the United States.
Age divisions will be reflective of the Long Term Player Development Pathway in 2017, further aligning the CJGA with Golf Canada and the Provincial Golf Associations. CJGA Junior Tour will include Boys & Girls Junior Division (U19) and Boys & Girls Bantam Division (U15), with an age cutoff date of August 1, 2017. The Linkster Tour will continue to operate under the same divisions – U15; U13; U11; and U9.
As a member of the CJGA, junior will have the opportunity to qualify for a number of national and international events. Such events include IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships (California, USA), Euro Junior Golf Cup (St. Andrew’s Scotland), North America Cup (Ontario, Canada), East Aurora International Junior Masters (New York, USA), US Kids Golf World Golf Championship (North Carolina, USA), and the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship (California, USA) just to name a few.
“We are so excited for the juniors in this country and the opportunities we present them to showcase their skills in the game of golf,” said John Lawrence, Director of Tour Operations for the CJGA. “Junior golfers in this country will have no shortage of opportunity for tournament competition this coming season and we’re excited what is in store in our 25th season for our members, both domestically and abroad.”
“Our members benefit the most in this country as we have provincial, national, and international ranking points. CJGA members will see an increase in the number of AJGA (PBE) Performance Star and Golfweek ranked events in 2017, as well as World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and Golf Canada rankings. All CJGA events will be ranked on the CJGA National Order of Merit, and Junior Golf Scoreboard will also continue to rank all CJGA multi-day Junior Tour events. Final event ranking & exemptions will be updated in the New Year.
