Saint-Dorothee, Que. (June 16, 2016) -Fast winds kept everyone on their toes this weekend at Islemere Golf Club in Saint-Dorothee, Que. Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Junior and Linkster Tours teed off on Saturday. Junior Tour golfers went head to head for the opportunity to earn an exemption to represent Team Canada East at the 2016 U.S Kids Golf Teen World Championship, which will be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina next month.

Junior Tour

Junior Boys Division (U19)

Ty Celone, 17, from Long Sault, Ont., kept his lead with an eagle on the fourth hole and a steady game off the tee to earn him the Junior Boys division title. Celone fired rounds of 77 (+5), 75(+3) for a tournament total of 152.

“My putting let me down on the back nine,” explained Celone. “But my strength off the tee allowed me the win. I am excited to have been exempted to the PING and Mizuno tournaments.”

Earning the runner up position for the Junior Boys division was Zeren Tuna, 16, from Brockville, Ont. Tuna posted rounds of 79 (+7), 77(+5), for a two-day total of 156.

Junior Girls Division (U19)

Marie-Pier LeFrancois, 18, from Rosemere, Que., took home the Junior Girls division title after posting rounds of 84, 82 for a tournament total of 166. LeFrancois played her irons well, but struggled with the wind.

“The greens were already fast, so the wind helped to push the ball more,” said LeFrancois. “I did my best to focus on my grip and not the weather.”

Juvenile Boys Division (U17)

William Duquette, 15, from Laval, Que., conquered another weekend coming out on top, claiming the Juvenile Boys division title. Duquette carded rounds of 71 (-1), 77(+5) giving him a two-day total of 148, four strokes over par. Duquette has his irons and wedges to thank for the low score.

“I am happy with my performance over the two rounds,” said Duquette. “It’s not my first win but it feels just as good as the first!”

Following behind Duquette was Nathan Desrochers, 14, from St. Bruno, Que. Desrochers posted rounds of 76 (+4), 74(+2) for a tournament total of 150.

Juvenile Girls Division (U17)

Lauren May, 15, from Austin, TX., had a long journey but it was all made worth it when she was announced the Juvenile Girls division winner. May fired rounds of 76, 88 for a two-day total of 164. May had a strong first round, but got caught up in the bunkers for round two.

“I performed well with my drives,” explains May. “They were straight and my long putts assisted my drives.”

In the runner up position was Sarah Cushing, 16, from Brockville, Ont. Cushing posted rounds of 89, 87 for a two-round total of 176.

Bantam Boys Division (U15)

Thomas Stafford, 14, from Beaconsfield, Que., has his positive attitude and putting to thank for winning the Bantam Boys division after carding rounds of 77 (+5), 76 (+4) for a tournament total of 153.

“I entered the second round thinking ‘don’t get ahead of yourself’,” explained Stafford. “I knew the wind was going to be tough but I was able to claim my first win of the season.”

Logan Boucher, 14, also from Beaconsfield, Que., found Stafford to be good competition but came up short in the second round. Boucher posted rounds of 75 (+3), 82 (+10) for a tournament total of 157.

Bantam Girls Division (U15)

Mathilde Denicourt, 14, from St. Césaire, Que., had an impressive weekend with three birdies and matching round of 75, giving her a tournament total of 150, six strokes over par.

“I played well and I am very happy to have another CJGA win under my belt,” said Denicourt.

Denicourt’s challenger, Yasmine Daoud, 13, from Pierrefonds, Que., took home the second place position with rounds of 83, 88 for a two-day total of 171.

Linkster Tour

Peewee Boys Division (U13)

Malik Dao, 12, from Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot, ended the tournament with the overall lowest score and the Peewee Boys division winner. Dao carded a round total of 74, two strokes over par.

Vasily Konachenkov, 12, from Montreal, Que., was a fierce competitor against Dao. Konachenkov fell short, claiming the second place title with a round total of 17, three strokes over par.

Bantam Boys Division (U15)

William Nazarian, 13, from Montreal, Que., finished first in the Bantam Boys division, posting a round total of 84.

Felix Gerin, 13, from Coaticook, Que., shadowed Nazarian for the runner-up position with a round total of 86.

Atom Boys Division (U11)

Ashton Proulx, 9, from Ottawa, Ont., was the Atom Boys division winner after firing a round of 84 while Estraid Poudy, 9, from Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., was the runner up with a round total of 99.

Novice Boys Division (U9)

Charles-Edmond Proulx, 8, of Longueuil, Que., and Landon Van Loon, 7 of Ingleside, Ont., topped the Novice Boys division. The boys tied the round with scores of 41. Proulx was crowned the winner, giving Van Loon second place.
