Juvenile Boys Division (U17)
CJGA member since 2008, Matthew Anderson, 16, from Mississauga, Ont., won the Juvenile Boys division as well as the overall lowest score of the tournament. Anderson fired rounds of 72 (E), 76 (+4) for a tournament total of 148. He tallied a string of three consecutive birdies in the second round.
“The course really suited my game, it allowed me to cut shots off the tee,” explained Anderson. “Its feels good to win early in the season, definitely a confidence booster!”
Making a pair of birdies of his own, Jeffrey Fang, 13, from Newmarket, Ont., followed behind Anderson to take home second place. Fang carded rounds of 79 (+7), 76 (+4) for a two-day total of 155.
Junior Boys Division (U19)
Travelling from Belleville Ont., was Shayne Simpson who earned his second CJGA win this weekend by three strokes. Simpson birdied three holes in the second round to post rounds of 77 (+5), 74 (+2) for a tournament total of 151. Simpson had his putting to thank for his win, “I had a rough start on both rounds,” said Simpson. “My putting helped me pull the game together, especially when I hit it out of bounds on the 16th hole.”
Seam Garvey, 17, from Oakville, Ont, was awarded the second place position after carding rounds of 83, 71 for a weekend total of 154.
Bantam Boys Division (U15)
Vick Gu, 13, from Markham Ont., won the Bantam Boys division after firing rounds of 77 (+5), 76 (+4) for a tournament total of 153. Gu knew competition would be tight, but he kept a clear head and made the safe shots.
“Nicholas Lin really pushed me during the second round with great ball striking,” explained Gu. “But I made my best putts of the year and I am happy to have earned my win.”
Two strokes behind Gu, Adam Mussani, 14, from Greely, Ont., played a close game but took home second place after carding rounds of 77 (+5), 78 (+6) for a two-round total of 155.
Bantam Girls Division (U15)
Mackenzie Morrison, 13, from Toronto Ont., put together two solid rounds to take home the first place position. Morrison fired rounds of 92, 84 giving her a tournament total of 176.
Also from Toronto, Ont., Allison Tran, 14, took second place by posting rounds of 113, 119 for a weekend total of 232.
The next stop on the Georgian College Junior Series will be June 11-12 at National Pines Golf Club.
The CJGA Junior Tour will hold their next Ontario event June 4-5 at Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club.
