Chilliwack, B.C. (May 17, 2016) – The wind let up in the second round and the scores went lower over the weekend in the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Junior Tour tournament at Royalwood Golf Course in Chilliwack, B.C.

Bantam Boys (U15)

Burnaby, B.C., golfer Leo Harper, 13, carded a -2 under par 70, the lowest round of the tournament, to win the Bantam Boys division. Harper’s weekend rounds were 77 (+5), 70 (-2), for a total score of 147. Harper explained his best competitive tournament round, “the weather was a factor with the wind blowing so hard. But I was able to fix a few mistakes during the second round.”

Another Burnaby golfer, Andy Luo,13, finished second carding scores of 81 (+9), 76 (+4), for a tournament total of 157.

Bantam Girls (U15)

Chaewon Baek, 12, from Langley, B.C., finished on top of the Bantam Girls division with rounds of 79 (+7), 72 (E), for a weekend total of 151.

Abbotsford B.C., golfer, Rachel Chung, 14, finished second carding rounds of 85, 91, for a tournament total of 176.

Junior Boys (U19)

Bryce Tickner Krakowec, 18, from Victoria B.C., won the Junior Boys division shooting scores of 75 (+3), 74 (+2) giving him a two-day total of 149.

“The course was in great shape but with the wind it made for some pretty tough conditions,” explained Tickner. “I made a birdie the first round and eagle today.”

Cloverdale’s Morgan Benko, 18, from Cloverdale B.C., finished second shooting rounds of 85, 80, 165.

Junior Girls (U19)

Kelly Hellman, 17, from Nelson, B.C., won the Junior Girls division and her first CJGA win shooting 80 (+8), 74 (+2), for a weekend total of 154. Hellman sheds some light on her first win.“I felt good today. There was less wind and the course was in really good shape,”

Juvenile Boys (U17)

Jackson Jacob, 14, from Fort Langley, B.C., won the Juvenile Boys division carding rounds of 78 (+6), 72 (E), for a tournament total of 150. He knew that getting off to a good start at Royalwood would be the key to his round.

“The first hole at Royalwood is my favourite, “ said Jacob. “I can pump my drive around the water and it puts me in good position to the green.” Jackson

Abbotsford, B.C., golfer Min Jyeong Kang, 16, finished second, firing rounds of 80 (+8), 74 (+2), for a tournament total of154.

Juvenile Girls (17)

Kate Choi, 16, from Surrey, B.C., pared majority of the second round, helping her to win the Juvenile Girls division shooting rounds of 81 (+9), 74 (+2), for a two-day total of 155.

“My putting and driving were better today,” said Choi. “I hit the green with my tee shot on the par four 17th hole, which might be my favourite hole”

Jacklyn Duchen, 16, from Burnaby B.C., came in second place with rounds of 91, 100, for a tournament total of 191.
