Three exemptions were also awarded to play in the Quebec Junior Championship.

Junior Boys Division (U19)

Jared Dandy, 17, from Vankleek Hill, Ont., earned a big cheer from the crowd as he took home the Junior Boys division title. Dandy had a home field advantage playing his home club of Hawkesbury. Dandy sank three birdies and fired rounds of 74 (+2), 72 (E) for a tournament total of 146. Nicholas Brisebois, 18, from Kanata, Ont., came up behind Dandy with rounds of 74 (+2) 73 (+1) for a two-day total of 147.

Junior Girls Division (U19)

It was a proud moment for Brigitte Thibault, 17, from Rosemere, Que., when she was crowned the Junior Girls division winner. Thibault carded rounds of 73 (+1), 74 (+2) for a weekend total of 147. She came into the weekend with a clear head and ended it with 5 birdies in each round earning her first CJGA career win.

“My driving and shots to the green made up for my putts this weekend,” explains Thibault. “We played on a great course and I couldn’t ask for more.”

Noémie Pare, 18, from Victoriaville, Que., followed behind, taking home the runner up position after posting rounds of 79 (+7), 78 (+8), for a tournament total of 157.

Juvenile Boys Division (U17)

In his fifth season as a CJGA member, Remi Chartier, 15, from Beaconsfield, Que., added a second win to his resume this weekend, firing rounds of 74 (+2), 76 (+4) for a two-day total of 150. Although he had never played the course before, he went in confident.

“I knew the course would be tight and I had good putting inside 15 feet,” said Chartier. “I am happy to know that I can compete against the older players.”

In the runner up position was Jeffery Lebeau, 16, from Sherbrooke Que. Lebeau carded rounds of 74 (+2), 78 (+6) giving him a tournament total of 152.

Juvenile Girls Division (U17)

Céleste Dao, 15, from Notre-Dame Ile Perrot, Que., fired rounds of 75 (+3), 76 (+4) for a two-day total of 151. Dao owes her division win to her strong chipping and putting in both rounds. She has been a member of CJGA for three years and is no stranger to being a division winner.

“The girls I played with were great,” commented Dao. “But I came into the round to focus on my game, and no one else’s.”

Mathilde Denicourt, 14, from St. Césaire, Que., shared second place with Emily Romancew, 14, from Pierrefonds Que., as both girls fired rounds of 78, 83 for two-round total of 161.

CJGA will be hosting their next tournament in Kanata, Ont., June 4-5.
