Stouffville, Ont. (May 2, 2016) –This weekend, Rolling Hills Golf Club played host to the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Junior Tour and Linkster Tour. Junior and Linkster golfers played in chilly weather but it didn’t slow them down. The Junior Tour played the Bethesda Grange course and division winners earned an opportunity to represent CJGA Team Canada in the North America Cup.

Junior Tour

Junior Boys (U19)

Thomas Giroux, 17, from Georgetown, Ont., competing in his fourth CJGA event this past weekend claimed a second title win for the Junior Boys division. Giroux rode a hot putter, making six birdies in round two. He carded rounds of 76 (+4), 72 (E) for a tournament total of 148.

“It feels amazing to have back to back wins,” said an excited Giroux. “II played well but I could have tightened up my wedge play.”

In the runner up position was Paul Sung, 18, from Richmond Hill, Ont. Sung fired rounds of 76, 79 for two round totals of 155.

Juvenile Boys (U17)

Despite tough competition, Dylan MacDonald, 15, from Markham Ont., had a satisfying first CJGA win. With consistent ball striking, MacDonald scored rounds of 77 (+4), 75 (+3) for a two round total of 152. MacDonald was asked what helped or hindered his game, “The course was well maintained and good shorts were rewarded. But my wedge game needs some improvements.”

Connor Stalteri, 16, from Selwyn, Ont., followed behind with round scores of 79 (+7), 80 (+8) for a two round total of 159.

Juvenile Girls (U17)

A member of CJGA for four years, Sarah Cushing, 16, of Brockville, Ont., played well around the greens, allowing her to take home the Juvenile Girls division title. Cushing fired rounds of 84, 80 for a tournament total of 164. Cushing is happy with her start of the season.

“I went into today hoping to score in the 70s but I played well,” said Cushing. “I am excited for the next CJGA event.”

Alexandra Jucan came in second with rounds of 105, 100 for a tournament total of 205.

Bantam Boys (U15)

 Carlio Reyes, 14, from Markham, Ont., went into the round trying to maintain his lead with conservative play. Reyes posted rounds of 76 (+4), 77 (+5) for a tournament total of 153. Reyes had a strong short game when inside 100 yards.

“I knew it was going to be a good fight,” explained Reyes. “I am happy to have won and next time I’ll know to be a little less aggressive.”

Peter Blazevic, 12, from Burlington Ont., Michael Ikejiani, 14, from Minesing Ont., and Beni Long, 11, from Toronto, Ont., all came up behind Reyes with tournament totals of 163.

Bantam Girls (U15)

Mackenzie Morrison, 13, from Toronto, Ont., claimed her second CJGA win, in her two years of being a member. She fired rounds of 97, 87 for a two day total of 184. Morrison played well despite struggling off the tee.

“I had a sharp short game,” explained Morrison. “But I could have improved my driving accuracy.”

Catherine Zhang, 14, from Toronto Ont., took the runner up position with scores of 95, 92 for a two day total of 187.

Linkster Tour

Atom Boys (U11)

Alex long, 9, from Toronto Ont., pared majority of the round, posting a round total of 72.

Jordan Hwang, 9, from Richmond Hill, Ont., trailed behind Long for a round total of 77.

Atom Girls (U11)

Atom Girls division winner was Alexa Ouellet, 9, from Toronto, Ont. Ouellet kept the lead while carding a round total of 94.

Maggie Yu, 8, from Richmond Hill Ont., took the runner up position with a round total of 21.

Bantam Boys (U15)

Brendan Chan, 13, from Markham Ont., fired a round total of 70 along side Alex Gurdyal, 13, from Stouffville Ont. the boys played a playoff round, giving Chan the lead and Bantam Boys division title.

Bantam Girls (U15)

Alyssa Mckee, 13, from Brampton Ont., won the Bantam Girls division title after carding a round total of 99.

Kaitlyn Robson, 14, from Ajax Ont., came in second place for a round total of 106.

Novice Boys (U9)

Manav Bharani, 7, from Brampton Ont., and Tru Davidson, 7, from Toronto Ont., both carded round totals of 40. After the playoff round, Manav earned the Novice Boys division title.

Novice Girls (U9)

Angela Wang, 7, from Markham Ont., won the Novice Girls division title after posting a round total of 39.

Peewee Boys (U13)

Andre Zhu, 9, from Richmond Hill, Ont., posted a round total of 69.

Two strokes behind Zhu was Kevin Lee, 11, from Markham Ont. Lee came in the runner up position for a round total 71.

Peewee Girls (U13)

Alissa Xu,10, from Richmond Hill, Ont., carded a round total of 77 making her the Peewee Girls division winner.

Evelyn Lai, 12, from Newmarket Ont., followed behind with a round total of 80.
