Palm Harbor, FL (December 29, 2015) – Beautiful weather conditions greeted juniors golfers at Innisbrook Golf & Resort today as the second round of the CJGA World Junior Challenge was played. Juniors played the Copperhead and Island Courses today while the Linkster Tour (5-13) wrapped up competition on the North Course.

Junior Boys (15-19)

The final round on the Copperhead Course is sure to have excitement as three players sit atop the leader board in the junior boys division. First round lead Kaleb Johnson (Naples, FL) shot a second round 76 (+4) on the Island Course to remain at the top of the leader board heading into tomorrow’s final round. He will be paired with a couple Dutchmen as Martijn Horters and Vince van Veen both moved up after shooting rounds of 74 (+2). All three players have a 146 (+3) tournament total and one stroke lead over a group of three players heading into tomorrow’s final round.

Junior Girls (15-19)

Malaysia’s Natahsa Oon moved into top spot in the junior girls division after shooting a second round 76 (+5) on the par 71 Copperhead Course. She will take a one-stroke lead into the final round over Houston, TX native Christine Wang. Wang shot a second round 78 (+7) to sit alone in second place. Zhen Bontan of the Netherlands is in third spot with a 156 (+14) two day total while two-time defending champion Selena Costabile in lurking just three strokes back after shooting a 77 (+6) today.

Bantam Boys (14 & Under)

Wellesley, MA native Michael Thorbjornsen opened a three-stroke lead in the bantam boys division after firing a round of 70 (-1) today on the Copperhead Course. Thorbjornsen, 141 (-3) for the tournament, will look to go wire-to-wire for the win. Nathan Han (Somers, NY) remains in second spot after shooting even-par round of 71. Hiroshi Tai of Singapore will join the leader group after his round of 72 (+1), seven strokes off the lead while Taylor John McGerity of Lake Mary, FL is an additional stroke off the pace sitting at 149 (+6) for the tournament.

Bantam Girls (14 & Under)

Two Canadians sit atop the leader board in the bantam girls division after first round leader Mathilde Denicourt (St-Cesaire, QC) shot a second round 85 (+14) on the Copperhead Course today. She is joined by Richmond Hill, Ont. native Emily Zhu at 163 (+20) after Zhu’s second round 82 (+11). Brampton’s Vaijayanti Bharkhada moved her way up the leader board after a second round 82 (+11) and sits six stroke off the pace heading into tomorrow’s final round on the Copperhead Course.

On the Linkster Tour, Burlington, Ontario’s Peter Blazevic, 11, captured his third consecutive CJGA World Junior Challenge title on in the Linkster competition, this year in the Boys 11-13 division. He previously captured back-to-back Boys 9-10 division titles in 2013 and 2014.

He would not relinquish the two stroke lead he entered the final round with to capture his first Boys 11-13 World Junior Challenge title finish with a round of 74 (+3), finishing 3-over for the tournament. Tyler Cunningham of Milton, Ontario fired an even-par round, 71, to finish runner-up with a 147 (+5) two day total.

Spain’s Ali Berker shot the best round of the day, 66 (-5), to capture the Boys 9-10 division title with a 139 (-3) tournament total. Palm Harbor, FL native Alex Ogle finished runner-up after closing the tournament with a final round 74 (+1), four strokes back of Berker.

Nicole Felce of Holiday, FL went wire-to-wire to capture the Girls 10-13 division with a 149 (+7) tournament total and 12 shot victory. Pierrefonds, QC native Yasmine Daoud finished runner-up after rounds of 78 and 83.

Finn Foster of Brantford, Ont. captured the Boys 8 & Under division after shooting a final round 40 (+4) while Angela Wang of Markham, Ont. captured the Girls 9 & Under division after shooting a final round 47 (+11).

The championship flight will compete on the Copperhead Course with tee times beginning at 7:30am.
