-Division winners all go wire to wire for titles-
Burlington, Ont. (September 13, 2015) Hidden Lake Golf & Country Club played host to the opening CJGA Ontario Fall Series presented by Bushnell event over the weekend. Rain, wind, and cold weather conditions did not damped the players spirits or competitiveness as superb play was showcased in the two-day competition.
Boys 14 & Under
Fourteen year old Robbie Latter of Mississauga, Ont. captured his first CJGA title over the weekend playing some outstanding golf over the two days of competition. Latter finished the tournament one-over par, firing round rounds of 71-72 and a two stroke victory.
“I played really well this weekend” said an elated Latter. “I set my game plan to attack the golf course, commit to my shots and don’t play scared. I feel like I executed my plan well and feel like all my hard work is starting to pay off.”
Brampton native Kyle Chung made a charge up the leader board firing and even-par (71) second round to finish runner-up after opening the tournament with a 74 (+3).
“There was some great competition playing this weekend and a tight leader board and I could not be happier to capture the divisional title.”
Boys 15-19
Cole Hague defended his fall series title at Hidden Lake going wire to wire for a six stroke victory. Hague was tied for the lead after round one after opening with a 73 (+2) and followed that with a solid 72 (+1) final round to retain the his title with some ease.
“I played really solid this weekend and really only had one bad hole the entire tournament” Hague said following his round. “My ball striking was solid hitting 15 green each day although I could have improved my putting a little. All that said, I am really pleased with my play and winning the event for a second year in a row.”
After starting the day in 7th place, Thomas Giroux of Georgetown, Ont. catapulted up the leader board as he matched Hague’s final round 72 (+1) to finish runner-up.
Girls 14 & Under
Victoria Li of Toronto captured the younger girls title putting together two rounds of 93. “I tried to keep it really simple out there and didn’t want to overthink anything” Li said. “This is my first CJGA win so I am really happy, although I know there is a lot of room for improvement moving forward.”
Alexandra Jucan of Woodbridge, Ont. finished runner-up.
Girls 15-19
Dorchester, Ont. native Nicole Deweyert went wire to wire to capture her second CJGA victory of the season. “I fell I performed well considering the tough conditions” she said following her victory. “I drove the ball well this weekend and was pretty consistent with my short game, I just had some challenges with my approaches and not taking enough club. Regardless, I feel good about the win and will enjoy it for the time being.”
The CJGA Ontario Fall Series presented by Bushnell continues in at Bethesda Grange Golf Club in Stouffville, Ont. September 26-27.
