Richmond Hill, ON (August 20, 2015) – The CJGA Junior at Kings Riding concluded on Tuesday at King’s Riding Golf Club in King City, ON.  Juniors in all divisions battled against intense heat the first day and high winds the second day, in addition to competing against their peers.  Spectators were treated to some great golf over the two days.

After 18 holes of play, Richard Kwok of Markham, ON found himself with the early lead in the Boys 14 & Under division with a first round 75 (+4).  Narrowly behind Kwok were Gerry Mei of North York, ON and Michael Ikejiani of Minesing, ON, shooting scores of 76 (+5) and 77 (+6) respectively.  On day two, Michael Ikejiani got off to a hot start as he was level-par through 10 holes.  Ikejiani would eventually shoot a round two score of 72 (+1) for a tournament total of 149 (+7), claiming his first CJGA Junior Tour win.  “My iron play was fantastic this week,” said Ikejiani.  “Hitting the ball close to the hole alleviated pressure on my putting, which wasn’t at its best”.

In the Boys 15-19 division, round one saw Andrew Nagel of Elmvale, ON and Keaton Veillette of Toronto, ON both shoot even par rounds of 71 (E).  Nagel’s round was highlighted by a four under par back nine.  On day two, Nagel bested Veillette, shooting a score of 76 (+5) for a tournament total 147 (+5) and a one-stroke victory.  “My back nine during the first round really gave me momentum coming into today,” said Nagel after his round on Tuesday.  “My iron play took the pressure off my putting, as I was able to hit a lot of greens over the past two days.”

After one round of play, Victoria Zheng of Markham, ON and Claire Hwang of Maple, ON found themselves co-leading, after both shootings rounds of 88 (+17).  On the second day, Zheng was able to outlast the field, shooting a tournament total of 182 for a two-stroke victory.  “The golf course was very tough,” Zheng explained.  “There were a lot of tight fairways and long par 4s.  My game plan coming into the second day was to just keep it simple.”

In the Girls 15-19 division, Stephanie Chiarotto of Bolton, ON was able to extend her winning streak to two straight CJGA tournaments.  Chiarotto shot a tournament total of 184, which was good for a two-stroke victory over Annabel Ngo of Toronto, ON.  “It feels very good to get my second straight win, especially with the tight competition I experienced over the past couple days.”

The next stop for the CJGA Junior Tour is at Horseshoe Valley Resort (Highlands Course) for the AJGA/CJGA Junior Championship Qualifier on Sunday August 20, 2015.
