St. Catharines, ON (August 12, 2015)- Wednesday marked moving day at the CJGA Mizuno National Junior Championship at Rockway Vineyards Golf Course in St.Catharines, ON, and the day lived up to its name. Logjams atop the boys leaderboards began to spread out and leaders in the girls divisions stretched their leads.
The day began in the Boys 15-19 division with four players tied atop the leaderboard. Second round co-leader Nicholas Brisebois of Kanata, ON opened slow, playing the first four holes in 2-over par. Brisebois then began to catch fire, playing holes 5 through 16 in 4-under par. A pair of bogey to finish brought him into the clubhouse at even par on the day and 1-under for the tournament. This was good enough to earn a two shot lead going into the final round, with playing partner Kelvin Young Woong Lim posting a 2-over par 74 to be alone in second place. Aidan Gavey, whose division best 3-under 69 helped him move from T13 to T3, made the largest move up the leaderboard.
Grace St-Germain continued her domination of the Girls 15-19 division Wednesday, shooting a 3-under par 69. St-Germain’s consistency was once again her strongpoint, carding four birdies and one bogey, with a bogey free back nine 33. St-Germain holds a 16-stroke lead over Emily Chu of Ancaster, ON heading into Thursday’s final round. “My game plan doesn’t change tomorrow, the plan is to still take it one shot a time and not get ahead of myself,” St-Germain had to say after the round.
Second round co-leader Sean Buckles was able to grab the lead by himself going into Thursday after posting a third round 5-over par 77. The round was good enough to gain a two-stroke lead in the Boys 14 & Under division, putting his tournament total at 11-over par.The Vancouver native opened Wednesday’s round with a birdie, but a lost ball caused him to take a quadruple bogey on the second hole. Buckle’s bounced back quickly though, draining a thirty foot par putt on the par-3 3rd hole, which was the first of 11 straight pars. Buckles will be joined in the final group Thursday by Eli Matthew(+13) and Even MacLean(+14).
Cindy Zhou of Niagara Falls, ON leads the Girls 14 & Under division after posting a third round 82.
