Richmond Hill, ON (July 28, 2015)- Going into round two of the CJGA Ping Canadian Junior Match Play, leaderboards were cluttered as players fought for seeding in Wednesday’s playoff round. With another day of perfect golf weather at Lakeridge Links Golf Club in Whitby, ON, the top players were able to separate themselves from the field.

In the Boys 15-19 division, first round leaders John Burghardt of Oakville, ON and Mitchell MacLeod of Oro-Medonte, ON once again shot matching rounds, both posting even-par scores of 72. Burghardt’s round featured two birdies and two bogeys, while MacLeod’s round was a rollercoaster with seven birdies and seven bogeys. Burghardt was the first player to complete his round, meaning he will take the top seed into the playoff round. After round one, 13^th and 21^st place were separated by only two strokes, making a playoff for the last seeds in the 16-man playoff round a high likelihood going into round two. However, players were able to create more separation on Tuesday, with Ryan Trapp of Janetville, ON grabbing the 16^th seed in regulation by posting a two-day score of 154. This was good enough to forgo a playoff by one stroke.

In the Boys 14 & Under division, Johnny Travale of Hamilton, ON posted the week’s most impressive round, posting a 7-under par score of 65. Travale’s round featured six birdies, one eagle, and a lone bogey, on his way to the low score of the week. This was good enough to earn Travale the top seed going into the playoff division, and a first round bye. First round co-leader Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga, ON grabbed the second seed with an even-par round of 72, featuring four birdies along with four bogeys.

In the Girls 15-19 division, Sydney Naro of Toronto, ON was able to jump from third place to the top of the leaderboard posting a second round score of 4-over par 76. This was vital, as the top two seeds in the division earn a bye into the semi-final matches. Naro’s round reached a high point when she holed out for eagle on the par-4 8^th hole. First round leader Delana Basanisi of Mississauga, ON held on to earn the second semi-final bye, posting a second round 82.

The Girls 14 & Under division also had two semi-final bye’s on the line, and first round leader Sophie Kim of Toronto, ON was able to back up her performance with a second round 87. This was good enough to earn her the top seed by a single shot. Victoria Zheng of Markham, ON made a valiant attempt for the top spot, posting a division best score of 85 in the second round.
