Richmond Hill, ON (July 6, 2015) CJGA Juniors were greeted with 3 days of warm weather at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Georgetown, Ontario. With course and weather conditions at a premium, juniors were able to take advantage and post some great scores. Michael Rizzo, Emily Chu, Zach Ryujin and Emily Romancew captured victories in their respective divisions with their play in the 3 rounds at the CJGA Eastern Canadian Junior Championship.
Boys 15-19
Michael Rizzo of Brantford, ON put together 3 great rounds shooting 75-68-75(+8) to take the Boys 15-19 division. Michael had a total of 7 birdies over the course of 3 days, highlighted by his 5-birdie 2nd round 68. Everything seemed to click for Rizzo at Eagle Ridge as he captured his first career CJGA win
Ryan Stolys of Richmond Hill, ON and Michael von Schalburg of King City, ON finished 2 shots behind Rizzo posting a +10 tournament total. Stolys joined Rizzo by shooting a (-1) 69 in the second round as the only players to shoot a score under par.
Boys 14 & Under
The Boys 14 and Under division was won by Zach Ryujin of North Vancouver, BC, who fired a 83-70-77(+20) to record a one shot victory. Zach’s tournament was highlighted by a 2nd Round 70(E) where he recorded 5 birdies. Zach also finished the tournament off strong shooting a 77(+7) with 3 birdies.
Following up Ryujin was Yaroslav Ilyenko of Stouffville, ON who finished 1 back of the champion. Yaroslav showed good consistency to his game shooting 79-76-76(+21)
Girls 15-19
Emily Chu of Ancaster, ON ran away with the victory in the Girls 15-19 division. Emily started the tournament shaky, shooting a round 1 86, but followed up strong by shooting 74-76 in the final 2 rounds to separate herself from the field. Emily seemed to really find her swing after round one as she was able to record 6 of her 7 birdies in her final 2 rounds.
Sydney Lia of Timmins, ON and Alyssa DiMarcantonio of Maple, ON finished tied for second.
Girls 14 and Under
Emily Romancew of Pierrefonds, QC finished the tournament off strong to capture the Girls 14 & Under division in dominating fashion. For the fourth time in this short CJGA season, Emily Romancew was able to come out on top of the Girls 14 and Under division. Emily went on to shoot 88-79-80 which was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 11th.
Second-place in the Girls 14 and Under division went to Zhiying Zhou of Niagara Falls, ON with 3 consistent rounds of 87-85-89.
