Richmond Hill, Ont. (July 5, 2015) – Distinguished junior golfers will travel to Toronto this week for the 13^th annual North America Cup. This prestigious international event is returning to its birthplace at Weston Golf & Country Club in Toronto and will see CJGA Team Canada battle IJGT Team USA from July 7-9 in a Ryder-Cup format event. The Canadian contingent is made up of talented juniors after qualifying through a national qualifying series on the CJGA schedule. These athletes have already established lengthy resumes that feature success on the provincial, national and international level.

CJGA Team Canada will look to retain the cup after a thrilling 15.5-12.5 point victory last year in Bluffton, South Carolina. It was the first victory for the Canadians in a seven year stretch. The Canadian squad will lean on some veteran leadership heading into in the highly anticipated competition. Weston Golf & Country club member Tyler Erb (Toronto, Ont.) and Andrew Russ (Oakville, Ont.) were both part of last year’s victorious team and look to provide a source of inspiration to their new team members.

The North America Cup has quickly become one of the preeminent junior golf tournaments in both Canada and the United States. Since its inception in 2003, the event has witnessed outstanding golf shots and an increasing competitive rivalry. The North America Cup is recognized as a hub for future stars in the game as several of its participants have gone on to play on professional tours around the world, including PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler and Morgan Hoffmann.

The CJGA is proud to continue its partnership with Weston Golf & Country Club as the club prepares to host its seventh North America Cup. From its humble beginnings as a four hole golf course begun by four friends in 1909, on the east bank of the Humber River in the small town of Weston, the Weston Golf & Country Club has grown into one of the premiere golf courses in Canada. Weston has hosted many prominent events both in golf and curling. The Canadian Open was held in 1955 with a young Arnold Palmer winning his first tour victory and setting a record that held for many years as the lowest score in Open history.

Prior to the tournament, members of CJGA Team Canada take part in a two-day training camp July 4-5 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario, led by CJGA National Coach Sean Casey.

Teams will compete in fourball, foursome and singles matches over the three-day event. A single point will be awarded to a team for winning a match and a half point will be awarded to each team if a match finishes all square. The first team to reach 14 ½ points will win the North America Cup. IJGT Team USA leads the overall series 9-3.
