Halifax, NS (July 1, 2015)- Sunny skies and warm weather greeted golfers early this morning for the morning matches of the 13^th Annual Junior Canada Cup at the Ashburn Golf Club – New Course in Fall River, NS.

Team East set the tone early in the day by winning all three of their front 9 matches. In the first foursomes match, Team East’s John Mosher and Ethan Johnston defeated Team West’s Hunter Thomson and Peter Zhang by a score of 2&1. In the second foursome’s match, Ben Weaver and Paul Rodrigues of Team East defeated Connor Tate and Mitchell Janzen by a score of 2 up, with an impressive four straight hole win to close out the match. In the front 9 singles match, Team East member Shaun Margeson defeated Daniel Porter by a score of 1 up.

In the back 9 morning matches, Team East increased their lead by winning the session 2 & half to a half. In the first fourball match, John Mosher and Ethan Johnston of Team East defeated the team of Thomson and Zhang by a score of 1 up. The second match had the unstoppable Team East pairing of Paul Rodrigues and Shaun Margeson, who defeated Mitchell Janzen and Daniel Porter by a score of 4&3. The back 9 singles match earned Team West their only points of the morning, with Connor Tate earning a half point against Ben Weaver. This left the score after morning matches 5.5-0.5 in favour of Team East

With afternoon singles matches being worth 2 points, Team West kept faith. However, Team East began the afternoon with a bang as Shaun Margeson defeated Connor Tate 9&8. Team West then began to show some life, with Peter Zhang defeating Ethan Johnston by a score of 4&3, along with Hunter Thomson defeating John Mosher 2 up. The comeback fell short, however when Team West member Mitchell Janzen was forced to concede his match due to injury on the twelfth holes, giving Team East enough points to retain the cup. In the final match, Team West’s Daniel Porter defeated Ben Weaver by a score of 2&1, to make the final score for the day Team East 9.5- Team West 6.5 and the second straight victory for Team East at the Ashburn Golf Club.
