Richmond Hill, On (May 30, 2015)- From the onset, sunshine and warm weather made conditions appear welcoming for the first round of the Nike Golf Junior Series at Northumberland Links in Pugwash, NS. But as the day went on, wind conditions picked up making low scores hard to come by. Coming off a T5 finish last week at the CJGA Cabot Links Junior Open, Matthew Chandler of Chandler, NS continued his strong play with an opening round 77 to take the overnight lead in the Boys 15-19 Division. Calvin Ross is Chandler’s closest competitor, opening with a round of 79, and is also building off of a top 5 finish at last weeks event in Inverness, NS

Matt West of Bedford, NS posted his best competitive round of the season with an 81 to take a three shot lead into the final round in the Boys 14 & Under division. Trailing by 3 heading into the final round, last weeks champion John Mosher of Halifax, NS is looking to make it back to back victories to start his CJGA season.

In the girls 15-19 division, Claire Conning of Indian Mountain, NB fired an opening round 92 to open up a 3 shot over night lead. Conning will be followed tomorrow by fellow New Brunswick native Laura Jones, whose opening round 95 was good enough for second place.

Also coming off a victory at Cabot Links, Heather McLean of Port Williams, NS opened with a round of 92 to take the lead heading into Sunday in the girls 14 & Under division.
