Keenan McPhail of Ottawa, ON stayed consistent throughout the weekend, posting two straight rounds of 78 (+5) and a tournament total of 156 (+10) to capture his first CJGA win of the season. Coming into Sunday four shots off the lead, the 16 year-old knew that he had to play well to have a chance come the end of the day. “My plan coming into the round was to stay close until the end, and I knew that anything could happen down the stretch,” said McPhail on his comeback win. Keenan was able to capitalize on his opponent’s shortcomings, making a key par on his final hole to seal his victory. With his strong play at Le Victorien, McPhail earns an exemption into the year-end Nike Golf Junior Championship, a tournament he was able to win last season.

Ty Celone of Long Sault, ON finished in the runner-up position, following up his first round 75 with an 82 on Sunday, for a tournament total of 157 (+11).

Boys 14 and UnderJP

The Boys 14 and Under division saw Jean-Phillipe Denicourt of St-Cesaire, QC perform well over the two rounds, shooting a tournament total of 151 (+5), good enough for first place at Le Victorien. The first-round leader, after a 74 (+1) on Saturday, followed up his strong play with a 77 (+4) on Sunday in his first tournament of the season. Jean-Phillipe was able to combat the vicious winds and tough conditions with good strategy. “I hit my driver very few times this weekend because I was trying to keep the ball low and out of the wind. Whenever I had a tough hole, I stayed focused and stuck to my game plan,” Denicourt said following his five-stroke victory. After emerging victorious in his first event of the season, Jean-Phillipe is excited for what lies ahead in upcoming CJGA tour stops at Islemere and Val-des-Lac.

Finishing runner-up to Denicourt was William Duquette, who posted a tournament-best 73 (E) in the second round for a tournament total of 156 (+10).

Girls 15-19

EmilieEmilie Tyndall of Kirkland, QC rose victorious in the Girls 15-19 division, posting a tournament total of 181 (+35). After leading through the first round of play, Emilie focused on playing her best to secure her victory. “I wanted to play better that I did yesterday,” said Tyndall after her round of 86 (+13) on Sunday. Despite the tough course layout, Emilie thought she managed her game well. “I played well even though it is the beginning of the season. I was able to assess the wind and make the right club selections,” added Tyndall. Moving forward, Emilie is excited to try and qualify for international events on the CJGA calendar, including the Euro Junior Cup and the North America Cup.

Darah McCarthy of Pointe Claire, QC shot a tournament total of 209 (+63) to finish in the runner-up position in the Girls 15-19 division.

Emily’s rounds of 81 (+8) and 80 (+7), for a tournament total of 161 (+15), led to her 2nd CJGA emilyvictory this calendar year. Romancew credits her putting for her great success this weekend at Le Victorien. “My putting was on fire. It helped me come back from mistakes well and keep my momentum up,” said an elated Emily post-round on Sunday. Although she struggled out of the gate in the second round, with a front nine 44 (+7), Emily held in tough and came in with a back nine 36 (E) to clinch victory in Mirabel.
