Richmond Hill, ON (May 16, 2015) – Junior golfers were treated to good weather and excellent course conditions today during the first round of The Great Waterway Junior Classic at Black Bear Ridge Golf Course in Belleville, ON. However, course conditions proved tough for competitors.

Keaton Veillette of Toronto, ON opened with a round of 79 (+7) to take a two shot lead in the Boys 15-19 division heading into tomorrow. Following closely behind are Kingston, ON players Ben Weaver and Jamaal Moussaoui, who both fired rounds of 81 (+9). With four players within three shots of the lead, Sunday is shaping up for an exciting finish.

Playing in his hometown, Ethan Johnston started with an opening nine hole score of 36 (E), and ended up shooting a final score of 77 (+5). Players in the Boys 14 & Under division will have their work cut out for them in order to catch Johnston on Sunday.

The Girls 15-19 divisional battle is shaping up to be the closest divisional battle this weekend. Nicole Tieman of Beaconsfield, QC opened with a round of 86 (+14). Following only one shot behind is Emilie Tyndall of Kirkland, QC with a round of 87 (+15).

The lone player in the Girls 14 & Under division shot an opening round of 87 (+15).
