Richmond Hill, ON (May 11, 2015) This past weekend the fifth event on the Ontario schedule was held at Station Creek Golf Club. Players battled hot and humid weather conditions throughout the weekend. Unfortunately, the Girls 15-19 division was unable to complete the second round due to inclement weather. Emily Romancew, Daniel Li, Matthew Vihant, and Diana McDonald were able to top their respective divisions and came away victorious. All players were competing for spots on Team Canada at the IMG Junior World Golf Championships and the North America Cup, with both events being held later this summer.
Girls 14 & Under
Emily Romancew of Pierrefonds, QC continued her hot play from the CJGA Ontario Season Opener at Willow Valley with another victory at Station Creek. Romancew was able to fight through the mentally taxing weather conditions to shoot rounds of 74 & 80 for a tournament total of 154. “I made a couple of mental mistakes during my front nine on Saturday, but I was able to come back from that with 3 straight birdies on my back nine” said Emily. Romancew credits her putting as a reason for her success.
Closely following Romancew was Sarah Beqaj of Toronto, ON after shooting an opening round of 75. Beqaj finished in the runner-up position after shooting a final round 81, for a tournament total of 156. This is Beqaj’s 3rd top two finish in as many events this season.
Boys 14 & Under
The Boys 14 & Under division was hotly contested this weekend at Station Creek. Daniel Li of Toronto, ON was able to come away with the victory in his first ever CJGA Junior Tour event. Li fired rounds of 74 and 71 for a tournament total of 145. “It feels very good to get this win, especially because it is my first event of the year!” said an ecstatic Li. Coming into the final round, Li found himself one shot back of Robbie Latter and Max Wang, but credited his superb iron play as the reason for his victory.
Following closely behind Li were four players: Benjamin Kim of North York, ON; Robbie Latter of Mississauga, ON; Max Wang of Brampton, ON; and Parker Lee of Oro Medonte. ON. All four players were tied for second with a tournament total of 148. Benjamin Kim had the round of the day, shooting his first ever sub-70 round of 69. A scorecard tiebreaker needed to be used, with Robbie Latter awarded the second-place prize.
Girls 15-19
Despite efforts to complete the second round of play, the Girls 15-19 division competed in a 27-hole tournament due to thunderstorms. With five players within 4 shots of the lead heading into Sunday, it was a tightly contested finish. First round co-leader Diana McDonald of Kingston, ON followed up a score of 80 with a 37 in round 2, for a tournament total of 117 and the victory. “I had a lot of new clubs in my bag this weekend, so I found that my putting really saved me both days” said McDonald. With a busy summer schedule ahead, McDonald is confident that this victory has prepared her success.
In the runner-up position was Jennifer Yoon of Toronto, ON. Yoon was two shots back after a first round 82, and followed up with a 36 on Sunday, for a tournament total of 118. This was Yoon’s first event of the season.
Boys 15-19
Spectators at Station Creek were treated to some stellar performances from players in the Boys 15-19 division this weekend. First round leader Angelo 
Giantsopoulos of Richmond Hill, ON fell short of winning on Sunday following up his 69 with a 76, and a tournament total of 145. Matthew Vihant of Toronto, ON continued his fine play again this weekend. Vihant was victorious earlier in the season at the Nike Golf Junior Series at Caledon Woods, and lost in a playoff at the Humber College Invitational earlier in the week.
After struggling to an opening round of 76, Vihant shot a final round 68, for a tournament total of 144. “I felt as though I had a good feel for the greens today, and everything kind of went my way. I putted very well, and was able to make a lot of long putts for birdie.” Vihant will look to defend his title at the CJGA PING Canadian Junior Match Play Championship later this summer.
The CJGA Junior Tour will now head to Belleville for The Great Waterway Junior Classic at Black Bear Ridge Golf Club on May 16th and 17th.
