Richmond Hill, Ont. (June 17, 2014) – It has been an exciting past few days for CJGA alum J.C Deacon as he has been selected as the University of Florida’s 15th men’s head golf coach in their program history.
“J.C played in many events on the CJGA schedule. His smile, determination and his love for the game of golf was infectious. I looked forward to seeing him and his family at each event. They were always very supportive and positive in their comments. I wish J.C the best of wishes as Head Coach of the University of Florida,” said CJGA Executive Director, Earl Fritz.
Deacon, 31, has had a strong dedication to golf his entire life and his golf background shows why he was the perfect candidate to take over the great Buddy Alexander who coached Florida to two NCAA titles and eight Southeastern Conference championships in his 27 seasons as coach.
The Toronto, Ontario native’s resume includes a strong four-year career as a player at UNLV where his team won the 2002 Mountain West Championship, he played in the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Championships and advanced to the semi-finals in the 2005 U.S Amateur. As a professional, Deacon’s best performance came on the Canadian Tour in 2008 when he finished tied for fourth at the Saskatchewan Open. Before being hired as the head coach of Florida, Deacon served as an assistant coach at his alma mater UNLV from 2011-2014.
