Weekend of Opportunity for CJGA Junior Tour at Islesmere
Laval, Que. (June 9, 2016) – The forth Quebec event of the season will provide Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Junior Tour golfers the opportunity to earn an exemption to represent Team Canada East at the 2016 U.S Kids Golf Teen World Championship, which will be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina next month. Golfers will be competing at Islesmere Golf Club in Laval, Que. The CJGA Linkster tour will also play the course on Saturday. There will also be a Freedom 55 Clinics for Kids on Saturday morning to help improve technique.
The U.S Kids Golf Teens World Championship is truly unique with a total field size exceeding 1000 golfers over the last four years. The event includes most US states and over 20 countries from around the world represented. The five-day tournament format includes: opening and closing ceremonies, practice rounds, a three-day tournament as well as other activities.
Islesmere’s original 18 of its 27 holes were designed by Willie Park Jr.,one of the game’s most revered architects. Islesmere is a tree-lined, narrow, strategic course; patience is truly a virtue here. Renowned Quebec course architect Howard Watson later added the other nine holes that complement the original 18 nicely.
Islesmere has held many professional tournaments over the years, including the men’s and women’s Canadian Opens, two Canadian PGA Championships, the Quebec Open, and the Montreal Open. Past winners of these events include Willie Lamb, Bob Gray, Stan Leonard, Moe Norman, Doug Ford and Byron Nelson. Nelson’s win at the 1945 Montreal Open included a course-record 63 and the victory was part of his record 11 consecutive wins that season.
