Vandette & Dao Clinch Wins in Playoffs at The CJGA Quebec Junior Open, Presented by Humber College PGM

Hawkesbury, ON (May 16, 2017) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association hosted its first tournament of the season on the Quebec/Ottawa circuit this past weekend at Hawkesbury Golf and Curling Club. The CJGA Quebec Junior Open presented by Humber College PGM saw junior boys and girls from across Ontario and Quebec compete to win their divisions. Spectators were treated with some free golf as both Junior Boys and Junior Girls titles were won in playoffs.

Junior Boys U19

Christopher Vandette of Beaconsfield, QC managed to edge out the victory in a playoff after posting stellar weekend rounds of 72-73-145. Vandette came into the final round with a share of the lead in a tight leaderboard, and was able to hold on in the playoff.

“I thought that the greens were a little more receptive obviously with the rain, so I took advantage of it and hit some good wedge shots. I was able to land shots just at the pin or behind the pin to spin it back,” said Vandette on his game plan and the condition of the golf course.

Remi Chartier, also from Beaconsfield, QC, finished runner-up to Vandette, who prevailed in the playoff over Chartier. With weekend rounds of 76-69-145, Chartier was the only player in the field to post a round in the sixties.

Junior Girls U19

Céleste Dao of Norte-Dame-de-Ile-Perrot, QC was able to clinch the Junior Girls division at Hawkesbury Golf and Curling Club with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Dao had rounds of 79-70-149 to edge the victory in a playoff. Dao entered the final round five strokes back of the first round leader, and was the only player in the field to post a round of 70.

“I like to play in these conditions, it’s my favourite, it’s not too rainy or too sunny. The ball travels well in the air in these conditions which helps my game”, said Dao in a post-tournament interview when asked about the weather conditions.

Dao was able to edge out Sarah Eve Rheaume from Lac De Lage, QC in the playoff. Rheaume had rounds of 78-71-149. Her final round pf 71 was only the second under- par score of the final round, next to Dao’s 70.
