Junior America's Cup - Team Alberta Qualifying

About the Championship

The Junior America's Cup is an International Team competition, consisting of teams from the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Established in 1973 competition consists of 18 teams of four players representing Alberta, Arizona, British Columbia, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Mexico (2), Montana, Nevada, Northern California, Oregon, San Diego, Southern California, New Mexico (Sun Country), Utah, Washington & Wyoming.

Throughout its history the Junior America's Cup has been contested on some of the most historic golf courses in North America, and has featured some of the biggest names in professional golf today including the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bryson Dechambeau, Tony Finau and Adam Hadwin.

2019 Championship - Blackhawk Golf Club (Edmonton, AB)

The 2019 Junior America's Cup will be contested at the Blackhawk Golf Club in Edmonton, AB.  We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with a number of tournament related items.  For more information on how to get involved please visit the 2019 JAC Host Page which can be accessed through the following link.

Team Alberta Selection

Team Alberta - Four (4*) Junior Boys (U19)
The following criteria will be used to make selections for Team Alberta

Qualifying Criteria #1.

  • One (1) spot will be awarded to the highest ranked (Alberta Resident) player within the Top 20 on the 2019 CJGA National Order of Merit (Junior Boys U19 Division)as of June 17, 2019.
    • Player must be ranked from 1-20 on the 2019 CJGA National Order of Merit as of June 17, 2019.
    • Player must be 14 years of age by July 21, 2019.
    • Player must be a resident of the province of Alberta.
    • Player must be a member of the CJGA in good standing.

If no player meets the above outlined criteria in Qualifying Criteria #1, then the spot will be reallocated and distributed via Qualifying Criteria #3.

Qualifying Criteria #2.

  • One (1) spot awarded to the highest ranked (Alberta Resident) player within the Top 25 on the 2019 Golf Canada National Junior Ranking as of June 17, 2019.
    • Player must be ranked from 1-25 on the 2019 Golf Canada National Junior Ranking as of June 17, 2019.
    • Player must be 14 years of age by July 21, 2019.
    • Player must be a resident of the province of Alberta.
    • Player must be a member of the CJGA in good standing.

If no player meets the above outlined criteria in Qualifying Criteria #2, then the spot will be reallocated and distributed via via Qualifying Criteria #3.

Qualifying Criteria #3.

  • Two (2) spots awarded to the two (2) highest ranked (Alberta Resident) players, not otherwise exempt, on the 2019 CJGA Alberta Regional Order of Merit as of June 17, 2019 through the CJGA Junior America's Cup qualifying series of events.
    • Player must play in a minimum of two (2) CJGA Junior America's Cup Qualifying series events to be eligible.
    • Player must compete in the Junior Boys (U19) division in the qualifying events.
    • Player must be 14 years of age by July 21, 2019.
    • Player must be a member in good standing of the CJGA.
    • Player must be residents of the province of Alberta.

CJGA Junior America's Cup Qualifying Series events include the following;

  1. A2 - May 18-19 - IMG Junior World Championship Qualifier (RedTail Landing Golf Course - Edmonton, AB)
  2. A3 - May 25-26 - CJGA Junior at Woodside (Woodside Golf Club - Airdrie, AB)
  3. A4 - June 8-9 - David Hearn Junior Series presented by Kia (Turner Valley Golf Club - Turner Valley, AB)
  4. A1 - June 15-16 - U.S. Kids TEEN World Championship Qualifier - (Mckenzie Meadows Golf Club - Calgary, AB)

Note: Only a players two (2) best finishes from the JAC Qualifying Series of events will be used to determine a players ranking for Team selection.  (For example if a player competes in all four events in the JAC Qualifying Series of events and finishes 4th, 8th, 1st & 3rd, only the Merit Points awarded for 1st & 3rd place finishes will count towards the team selection an the remaining two finishes will be dropped from consideration).  F

For the purposes of the Regional Order of Merit, all events award points based on the CJGA Tier 3 merit point distribution criteria.

Tie Breakers: In the event of a tie for the final spot on Team Alberta, ties will be broken based on the following criteria.

  • Scoring Average:
    • The players scoring average for their best three (3) rounds played in their two (2) best tournament finishes as part of the CJGA JAC Qualifying Series,
    • should players remain tied after the above comparison then the selection committee will compare the players scoring average over all four (4) rounds played in their two (2) best tournament finishes as part of the CJGA JAC Qualifying Series.

*Note: The CJGA reserves the right to select team members outside of qualifying requirements.
