St. Andrews, Man. (June 3, 2016) –The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Junior Tour will showcase the first Manitoba event of the season this weekend. CJGA Junior Tour golfers will play at the Larters at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in St. Andrews, Man. This tournament is exclusive to Manitoba for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Qualifying spots will be awarded to division winners to play in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.
Commonly referred to as The Optimist, this International Junior Golf Championships is one of the largest and most prestigious junior golf events in the world. In addition to top-level tournament golf, participants have the opportunity to meet fellow competitors and make new friends. Each year, more than 600 junior golfers from 30 countries participate in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Each year over 5,000 youth golfers from the North America compete in qualifying tournaments.
Built in 1989, Larters at St. Andrews was originally part of the Larter farm, situated in the RM of St. Andrews. Larters at St. Andrews is 20 minutes from downtown Winnipeg, North via Main Street, then East on the historic River Road.
The eighteen-hole layout flows through a distinctive prairie river-lot setting, from densely wooded areas to wide open meadows. The course is the first in Manitoba to have a Scottish links flavour combined with a unique prairie woodlot setting. The tract also features picturesque views of the Red River during play.
