Final Tournament Results

Surrey, B.C. (March 23, 2015) The third event on the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) British Columbia schedule teed off over the weekend at Morgan Creek GC and it was the first in which juniors had to deal with wet conditions. With rain overnight on Friday and all afternoon Sunday, juniors were able to overcome the elements with great scoring in all divisions

Boys 14 & Under

Surrey resident Daniel Sun was the victor in the younger boys division after shooting rounds of 69-79 (148) for a commanding nine stroke victory.

“The first round my putting was really good and I was dropping everything,” said Daniel Sun who wins his second consecutive CJGA title. “My driver and my wedge play were good too but that all went away in the second round. With the cold weather and rain today I couldn’t hit my shots, I was snap hooking everything and that lead to two double bogies. The back nine it got really wet and cold. I’m sure it was difficult for everyone.”

Sean Buckles of North Vancouver and Michael Crisologo of Richmond, B.C. finished in a tie for second place with two-day totals of 157. Buckles shot rounds of 77-80 and Crisologo had rounds of 79-78.

Girls 14 & Under

Morgan Creek member Susan Xiao put her local knowledge to use in capturing the younger girls title. Carding an opening round of 70 (-3), Xiao opened a nine stroke lead and never looked back winning the division by eight stroke. She finished at even-par (146) after shooting a final round 76 (+3). Vancouver resident Victoria Liu finished runner-up shooting rounds of 79-75 (154).

Boys 15-19

Richmond resident Diego San Pedro catapulted his way up the leader board on day two after entering the final round five strokes back to capture the Boys 15-19 division. Opening with a round of even par (72), San Pedro fired a 2-under par round on the final day to take the title by a single stroke over first round leader A.J. Ewart and Fritz Lo.

“It was tough, the rain made conditions really hard but I managed to keep it together and shoot a good score,” explained San Pedro, the 2014 BC Juvenile Champion on his first CJGA win. “My long game was really good and that kept me going. It feels really good to win a CJGA tournament.”

Ewart opened with a round of 67 (-5) but was unable to hold the lead shooting a final round 76 (+4) finishing in a tie with Lo, one stroke back of San Pedro.   Both players finished the tournament 1-under par (143).

Girls 15-19

Vivian Lee of New Westminster, B.C. captured her first CJGA title by a single stroke after opening with a scorching round of 68 (-5). Lee, a member of the Hong Kong Junior Golf Team is a Grade 9 student going to school in Vancouver until May before returning home to Hong Kong to play both the China and Asia Junior Circuit. Her second round 78 (+5), 146 two-day total was just enough to stay on top ahead of Surrey golfer Hannah Lee who shot scores of 70-77 (147).

“Everything was good the first round and then today I couldn’t putt. I was pushing or pulling putts and just not making anything” explained Lee. “The weather was a big challenge as we play in rain in Hong Kong but it doesn’t get cold like it did today. Fortunately my driver and irons were working well.”

The winners circle for Lee feels good after finishing runner-up at the CJGA Western Canada Junior Championship two weeks back.
