Pickering, Ont. (June 3, 2016) –Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club in Pickering, Ont., will play host to the final Ontario opportunity for Canadian Junior Golf Association Junior Tour golfers to qualify for a potential spot to represent Team Canada in the Euro Junior Golf Cup. Alongside with Junior Tour event, Cherry Downs will be hosting CJGA’s Linkster Tour series as well. Linkster Tour golfers will play the par three Executive course this weekend.

Formerly known as the World Junior Golf Cup, the Euro Junior Golf Cup was developed in 1998 and is conducted on courses around the home of golf in St. Andrews, Scotland every year. Popular among juniors across North America and Scotland, the Euro Junior Golf Cup provides junior golfers with an opportunity to re-visit golfs history and make some history of their own. Three countries participate each year – Canada, (Canadian Junior Golf Association), the United States (International Junior Golf Tour), and Scotland (Fife Golf Union). The tournament takes on a unique format with the three teams competing in singles matches over three day events to determine a winner for the John Clark Trophy.

Designed by Canadian architectural icon Howard Watson, Cherry Downs opened in 1962 on rolling terrain framed by woodlands. Fifty years later, Cherry Downs is a mature course that fits the eye like a grand master’s painting, but the dense forests and roller-coaster fairways test the competitors shot making skills, placing emphasis on course management abilities.

Designed as a homage to the greens at Augusta National, the devilish putting surfaces at Cherry Downs are its most defining feature. Slippery slopes, plateaus, run-offs and the protective surrounds will test your putting mettle. Perfect for juniors or those looking to hone their short game, Cherry Downs also offers a nifty nine-hole academy course gives golfers at all skill levels a place to hone their skills.
