The CJGA’s 2021 and 28th Season officially kicked off this week with the playing of the CJGA British Columbia Season Opener at University Golf Club presented by Red Komodo Golf. The players successfully fought off the brisk weather conditions of Vancouver and tough course conditions of University Golf Club that ultimately showcased how good these junior golfers are.

In the Bantam Boys division, Michael Li shot a final round 68 (-4) to claim top spot in the division and as an added bonus, lowest round of the tournament for the entire field. Li edged out runner up Ryan Liang, who also had an impressive final round 71, by one stroke with a clutch finishing putt on the 36th hole of the tournament.

In the Bantam Girls division, Lucy Lin blew away her competition with a nine-stroke victory over runner-up Katherine Hao to win. After a first round 70 (-2) that catapulted her to an eight-stroke lead, Lin did not look back and continued her steady play throughout the final round.

Kevin Li also blew away his competition by 11 strokes to win the Junior Boys division and lowest final score of the tournament (-4) as a bonus. Li shot a consistent 70 (-2) throughout both rounds of play. Runner-up Forrest Van Alstine also had a great final round shooting a one under par 71, but his efforts were not enough to catch Li after a first round 80 by Van Alstine.

In the tightly competitive Junior Girls division, Yeji Kwon was the sole victor by one stroke with a consistent even par score throughout both rounds. Runner-up Bonnie Zhai shot an impressive final round 70 (-2) but it was not enough to catch up to Kwon.

Tournament Director, Tyler Torrieri added, “the first tournament of the 2021 CJGA season was a success. It was great to see all of our players back on the golf course. We saw some fantastic golf all weekend and are excited to see where this season takes us!”

Every CJGA season opening tournament is very exciting and the 2021 CJGA BC Season Opener proved to be no different! Players were successfully able to battle the conditions to produce great rounds of golf, with the winners receiving exclusive giveaways from Red Komodo Golf. Some of these players will now look forward to next week when they compete in the Humber College PGM CJGA Western Canadian Championship Presented by TaylorMade.
