Pitt Meadows, B.C. (October 22, 2015) – This past weekend the CJGA conducted its second-last event on the BC schedule at Pitt Meadows Golf Club. Spectators were treated to a great display of skill on the course. In the end, Andrew Spalti, Freddy Sun, Euna Han, and Jennifer Gu all claimed wins in their respective divisions.

Vancouver native Andrew Spalti was consistent in his play this weekend, shooting rounds of 73 (+1) on both Saturday and Sunday. Spalti finished with a two-over total (146) to win the Boys 15-19 division. “The turning point in my round was when I made a seven-footer on 11,” said Spalti. “It’s a good way to end the season and I’ve still got one more CJGA tournament to go at Mission in a couple of weeks.” Matthew Kettleson of Vancouver, BC finished alone in second place after shooting rounds of 75 (+3) and 79 (+7), for a tournament total of 154 (+10).

Freddy Sun of Richmond, BC claimed a narrow victory in the Boys 14 & under division over Surrey golfer Peter Zhang. Sun opened the tournament with a 72 (E) on Saturday and closed with a 77 (+5) on Sunday, for a tournament total of 149 (+5). “I started the day five up. And then I was two down and then came back and won,” explained Sun of his up-and-down round with his opponent Zhang playing well. “I have worked really hard and it has all paid off.” Zhang carded rounds of 77 (+5) and 73 (+1) to narrowly finish in second place.

The Girls 15-19 division was tightly contested this weekend by Coquitlam’s Euna Han and West Vancouver’s Phoebe Yue. Han claimed the first round lead after shooting an opening round of 78 (+4). She followed that up with an even-par (74) final round. Despite opening the tournament with an 81 (+7), Yue charged back with a three-under (71) final round. With both Han and Yue tied with a tournament total of 152 (+4), a playoff was needed to determine a winner.

Han called on her experience on the par five playoff hole, splitting the fairway with her tee shot, playing safely up the fairway and then hit the center of the green with her third shot. Yue blasted a drive off the first tee, hit a solid second shot up to 100-yards and then pulled her next shot into the greenside bunker. When Yue failed to get up-and-down from the bunker Han confidently two-putted for a par and the win. “That was fun,” beamed Han after the playoff win.

Jennifer Gu of West Vancouver, BC opened the tournament with her best CJGA competitive score, a round of 79 (+5) on Saturday. Although Gu faltered on the second day with a score of 91 (+17), she was still able to claim the Girls 14 & Under division with a tournament total of 170 (+22).

The CJGA will travel to Mission Golf and Country Club in three weeks for its last tournament on the BC schedule.
