Richmond Hill (May 17th, 2015) Junior golfers enjoyed the CJGA Junior Worlds/Veritas Qualifier this past Saturday. The one-day tournament, held at Cambridge Golf Club in Cambridge, ON showcased many young talented golfers. Not only did the weather bring a positive atmosphere to the course- but so did the players.
Girls 9 & Under
Capturing the Girls 9 & Under division was Jia An from North York, ON. Playing a steady game throughout, she finished with a total score of 40 (+4). At only the age of nine, Jia really showed a strong ability in staying focused.
Not far behind was Sophia Xu from Richmond Hill, ON. At only the age of six, Sophia was an impressive player.
Boys 8 & Under
With a one-stroke lead, Jordan Hwang of Richmond Hill, ON finished with a final score of 34(-2). Eight-year-old Jordan was able to finish 2 strokes under par, and really demonstrated his talent well through the tournament. In only nine holes, Jordan was able to have 4 birdies and met par three times.
Close behind Jordan was Andre Zhu of Richmond Hill, ON. Andre finished with an impressive final score of 35.
Not far behind, was Cole Miranda of Cambridge, ON. Cole showed great sportsmanship, and finished with a final score of 39.
Boys 9-10
Taking first place was Kevin Lee of Markham, ON. Taking first place with a one-stroke lead, Kevin finished with a final score of 82. Ten year old Kevin came to the field with a positive attitude and was determined to do his best.
Close behind, was Grant Li of Mississauga, ON. Nine-year-old Grant finished with a final score of 83.
With a score of 84 Nathan Yoo of Toronto took third place for the Boys 9-10 division.
Girls 10-13
Madelin Boyd of Oshawa, ON worked for first place, and finished with a score of 77. Eleven year old Madelin won by a 4 stroke lead and remained level headed throughout. Not only did she wow everyone with her talent, but also displayed great levels of sportsmanship throughout the entire course.
Kelly Zhao of Toronto finished with a final score of 81 and took home the second place medal for the Girls 10-13 division.
Close behind Kelly was Alissa Xu of Richmond Hill with a final score of 82.
Boys 11-13
With a final score of 76, Carlito Reyes of Markham, ON took first place for the boys 11-13 division. Carlito started off strong with two birdies on the front nine, and then remained a steady player through out the back end of the course meeting par all but one time.
Close behind was Thomas Latter of Mississauga, ON. Thomas finished with a score of 77.
One stroke behind, was Bennett Ruby of Waterloo, ON who finished with a score of 78.
Next up, on the CJGA Linker tour is the CJGA Linkster ClubLink Series at Cherry Downs. This will be the 4th Linkster event of the season, and will be taking place in Pickering, ON on May 23rd.
