Richmond Hill, Ont. (June 16, 2014) – It was an event for the record books in Carstairs, Alberta this past weekend as two juniors broke course records en route to their victories at the Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior. Patrick Murphy (Crossfield, AB) was lights out as his opening round 62 (-10) broke the course record, and Sabrine Garrison (Calgary, AB) was also stellar as she broke the female course record shooting 70 (-2) in her final round.

Boys 15-19

There were many fantastic scores in the Boys 15-19 division this past weekend, but nobody was better than Patrick Murphy. In fact, nobody has been better than Murphy is a CJGA event before as he broke a CJGA record with his two-day total of 126 (-18). Murphy, 17, compiled 16 birdies, two eagles and only two bogeys in 36 holes of play. Not only did Murphy break a CJGA record but he also broke Carstairs Golf Club’s course record in the first round after shooting 62 (-10).

Boys 14 & Under

Kai Iguchi (Banff, AB) overcame a five-shot deficit heading into the final round to capture his age division. Iguchi’s final round of 73 (+1) was the best score in his age group for the weekend and as a result he won his division by four strokes. Finishing in second place was Mason Harder (Lethbridge, AB) who finished with a two-day total of 161 (+17) and just one shot back of Harder was Bradley McKeating (Calgary, AB) who shot a two-day total of 162 (+18).

Girls 11-19

It was a tight finish in the Girls 11-19 division this past weekend but for the second time in two days, another course record was broken. After being two shots shy of the lead after the first round, Sabrine Garrison (Calgary, AB) broke clear of the field by shooting a female course record of 70 (-2). Garrison’s course record day secured her the victory over Brianna Carrels (Lethbridge, AB) by three shots.

Other Notes:

Geoff Fry (Calgary, AB) finished second in the Boys 15-19 division after shooting 70-69 for a two-day total of 139 (-5). His finish earned him an exemption into PGA Tour Canada’s ATB Financial Classic.

Andrew Harrison shot a bogey free opening round 66 (-6), which included a stretch of four straight birdies on holes number 4,5,6 and 7.
