Random Thoughts for June

International season is upon us at CJGA Headquarters with a number of prestigious tournaments scheduled over the next little while. 

The 5th annual Mizuno North America Cup will return to Canada in 2007 as the historic Weston Golf & Country Club will once again host the Ryder Cup style tourney from July 2nd to 4th.  Qualifying is coming to a close for the Junior Worlds in San Diego as well as the Stephen Ames Cup in Stouffville, Ont.  It will be interesting to see which junior golfers separate themselves from the pack and test their games against some of the world’s best.

An interesting piece in this month’s newsletter discussing participation levels of girls in the sport.  I strongly believe that things are headed in the right direction as participation numbers for girls are up slightly in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia this year.  I should also mention some of the fabulous scores that have been turned in by several of the CJGA’s top ladies.  Brittany Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. has collected two low overall titles already while Juanita Rico of Calgary did the same at the CJGA Alberta opener.  Very impressive stuff from two of Canada’s bright stars.

HSBC Bank Canada will offer the HSBC Players Lounge for the first time at the CJGA Lipton Brisk Canada Cup Team East Qualifier in Bracebridge, Ont.  The lounge includes music, video games, and snacks for players.  HSBC will offer the Players Lounge at four additional selected events on the CJGA schedule this year so check back for updates.
