CJGA Team Canada Grabs Lead at Stephen Ames Cup

STOUFFVILLE, ON- CJGA Team Canada came strong out of the gate today at the first round of the inaugural Stephen Ames Cup in Stouffville, Ont. at Granite Golf Club. The team of eight junior golfers from across Canada took two of the four opening day fourball matches and halved a third to take a slim one point lead heading into tomorrow's foursome, or alternate shot, matches.

"It was an exciting day," said playing captain Trevor Edwards of Calgary, Alta. Edwards and his partner Chase Osiowy of Calgary halved their first round match after he drained a clutch eight foot putt on 18 to win the hole. "Our opponents played really well but I think we worked well together as a team."

The Canadian victories came from Girls Division and the Boys 14-16 Division. Kira Meixner of Richmond, B.C. and Jessica Potter of Coquitlam, B.C. got off to a great start and never looked back in winning 5 & 4. Tim Acaster of North Battleford, Sask. and Scott Thompson of St. Walburg, Sask. came back from a two hole deficit to win 3 & 2.

The second round of the Stephen Ames Cup will get underway on Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m. with foursome or alternate shot matches. The final round singles matches are scheduled for a 6:30 a.m. start on Saturday.
