PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD (August 14, 2008) – Though CJGA Team Canada fared better on Thursday at the Stephen Ames Cup in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the team still trails by six points heading into tomorrow’s final round singles matches.  Team Trinidad & Tobago earned 3 out of a possible 5 points during today’s foursome (alternate shot) matches to increase its lead at St. Andrew’s Golf Club to 8-2.

With 10 points available tomorrow, CJGA Team Canada will need to turn in a herculean performance to erase a 6 point deficit though the team only needs a tie to retain the trophy it won in Toronto in 2007.

“Obviously it’s an uphill battle tomorrow but the team will go out and play their best,” said John Lawrence, non-playing captain of CJGA Team Canada.  “It’s been an adjustment around the greens for the Canadians who aren’t used to this type of grass.”

CJGA Team Canada’s points on the day came courtesy of Anna Young of Saskatoon, Sask. and Jennifer Yang of Coquitlam, B.C. who defeated Trinidad’s Monifa Sealy and Alema Jack 3 & 2 in the Girls 15 & Under flight.  Cole Chelle of Edmonton, Alta. teamed with Brian Jung of Maple Ridge, B.C. to defeat Timothy Martin and Talin Rajendranath 2 Up in the Boys 15 & Under division.

The Stephen Ames Cup will conclude on Friday with singles matches. CJGA Team Canada currently holds a 2-1 lead in the overall series.
