PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD (August 13, 2008) – Home course advantage continues to play a significant role in the outcome of the Stephen Ames Cup as Team Trinidad & Tobago collected all five points on Wednesday at the opening round of the international event hosted by St. Andrews Golf Club in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Both Girls matches ended on the 14th hole while the closest match on the day featured Trinidad’s Timothy Martin and Talin Rajendranath who defeated CJGA Team Canada’s Cole Chelle and Brian Jung 2 Up.
“There’s always an adjustment when you travel to play internationally and the Trinidad & Tobago side played exceptionally well today,” said John Lawrence, non-playing captain of CJGA Team Canada. “There’s still 15 points up for grabs over the next two days and we’ll do our best to regroup.”
Tournament host, PGA Tour Professional Stephen Ames, was on hand on Tuesday night at the opening ceremonies as he conducted a golf clinic for tournament participants and eager spectators.
The Stephen Ames Cup will resume on Thursday with fourball matches scheduled to get underway beginning at 8:00 a.m.
